ASUS G74SX Laptop Motherboard Capacitor Repair

Fantastic forum, hoping you can help.

I bought a cheap motherboard that requires external display, and the seller believed it had a "blown fuse" but he couldn't find it to repair it.

I scanned over it and near the display cords and noticed this (the striped top piece blew off?):

1.) Does this look like the culprit?

2.) Can I use a soldering iron and my previous motherboard's capacitor to replace it?

    I appreciate ANY thoughts.

Safe to replace with the good one?

That light brown component looks like MLCC (Multi Layer Ceramic Cap) not fuse, failed mode is shorted circuit.

Thanks. Trying to understand the last part, sorry.

Do you believe I should try to replace it with the good one, or is it not responsible for failed native display?

Did you check with an Ohm meter to see if it showing as shorted circuit or very low resistance? Is one end connected to the circuit ground?
It looks like it is part of that switching power supply, you can see the SMD IC and the inductor with 2R2 printing on top.

You can use the capacitor in the same position from the old board, but beware when removing it. With just a soldering iron I think it might be hard to remove it without causing overheating damage. A hot air rework tool would be preferable.

It may also be worthwhile to measure the good capacitor in case there is some other issue and it blows again, so you would know what to buy as replacement.

+1 with agent, you must handle these MLCC properly, new or used.
