    Cap problem or others?

    first problem:
I have a gigabyte GA-6BXDS(dual P2 processer) MB which on good condition. One day the MB shutdown by itself and once i reopen back the computer, no POST of that motherboard from that day.I even notice that some of the 330uF 25v cap are different from others.
The cpu caps are all fine.(SANYO)
The 330uF caps is CHOYO brand
Can replacing the 330uF help solve the problem or some part in the motherboard already said bye bye to you?

    second problem:
same as above but this time is an old motherboard, asus SP-97V.No caps problem(i don't know as the caps looks fine) but no POST while powering up.
Can replacing the caps help solve the problem or some part in the motherboard already said bye bye to you?

    Thanks

why dont you post some pics of your board. sounds like the 330 need replacement. strange though the 330 are so small capacitance. you see anything else with problem, looking burnt or abnormal. If nothing else on the board is looking bad there is a good chance you can replace the 330s and have a good board. If you want to replace them make sure you read this board good and if you have any questions we are here to help.

please give more info and pics on your asus SP-97V it is an old board you say. did it fail for you one day or is it something you bought second hand and it doesnt work.

          thanks willawake for your reply.

1.If i use digital camera to capture, i think it is hard to see the bad caps but by using hand to feel it, there are some different with others(good one)

2.There are no burning sign on the board, everything is perfect.

3.For the SP-97V, i abandon this board more than 1 year, so i dig it out just to warm up only!BTW no bad caps on the board as the board have less caps on it.

quite weird too!I have 3 board with these symptom
1.Gigabyte GA-6BXDS(P2 400) (suddenly down and never come back)
          2.ASUS SP-97V(AMD K6 166) (power up and got nothing)
3.FIC ????(P1 133) (power up and got nothing)

Your gigabyte is a candidate for bad caps (one day the mb shut down and no post) but your other boards I dont know.

For the other boards, the board will not develop a bad cap problem in storage. It has to be turned on to develop this problem. Replace your components one by one using a friend's stuff if neccessary. Find if the problem really is the motherboard.

If the caps are no good, at the top they will be bulged/curved and not flat, they will have a brown discharge in the middle of the top of the cap, they may not be seated flat on the board as the bottom is bulging. Check the pics in this forum to compare to yours.

i ordered a lot of caps from digikey to repair my xboxs. one thing i ordered was 50NXA10MEFC5X11-ND caps and i think they are not polarized. will this cause any kind of a problem? i really don't want to order new caps just because of this.

              Hp DAOP5FMB6A0 blink caps/lock problem
              by dclass-pro
Hi guys, I have an HP model 15s-eq1040nl main DAOP5FMB6A0 REV:A with a caps/lock 5 long 3 short led flashing problem, I tried to remove the battery and program a new bios and when I restarted it immediately worked correctly, the pc turned on and loaded the operating system.
As soon as I turned off the pc and connected the battery, the problem reappeared... caps/lock 5 long 3 short led flashing again!
the battery was dead, i charged it and it works fine, but the pc won't turn on again.
What do you recommend me? Do I have to redo the bios or is there anything else to check?...

              Heathkit IO-4205 Power Supply Caps
              by eryjus
              Hello,

First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.

I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.

I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."

Problem with LG Plasma 60PM6700 - Random power downs
              by theone111
I have an LG Plasma TV 60PM6700 for the past ~12 years.

In the last ~3-4 months I have been having some issues.
              1. Problem: It started with random picture disappearing (sound still worked).
Frequency: Happened about once a week.
Solution: Had to turn off TV wait a few seconds before turning it on again.
              2. Problem: Then it got worse and the TV started to shut down and when turning on the no picture just sound.
Frequency: Happened about once a week.
Solution: Had to turn off TV wait about 10-20 seconds and turn it on again to solve.
              3. Problem: TV shuts down

why is my problem fixed when I ground caps?
              by looxuser
I have an audio device with two caps around an ic amp JRC2073. I replaced these two caps and the no audio fault remained, however by chance i shorted the exposed caps of these two with a finger each on one hand and got audio. My hand resistance was about 0.4mohn so i tried large resistor across instead and got audio too, why is this please? All the solder joints look and test good.
