Replacement capacitor

I'm looking to replace an eletrolitico 10,000uf, 6V, -10% +100% electrolytic axial capacitor in a Fluke 1900A. It would be nice to replace it with an axial if possible though I'm having a difficult time finding a 12000uf, +/-20%, 16V axial. I can find a 25V though the 50mm length will make it a tight fit. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Sad to say I would suggest a radial capacitor and solder a wire to the one lead to attach the other electrode. As you are using cable ties to hold it down this will provide good results. That 10000uF unit has died, and axial ones are hard to get these days.

Thanks for your suggestion. I just ordered a 12000uf/16V +/-20% radial from Digi-Key. I'll use one existing hole on the board, drill another, mount the cap vertically and run a wire to the other connection. I could lay it down as well and as you indicated, tie it down to secure it.

Just thought I'd post the final solution:



The counter works fine now and I have the correct voltage of 5V at test point 1.

Not a bad life span there, 35 years before requiring some attention.
