I don't have an A7N8X, but curious about capacitors they use

Has anyone seen, at the least, capacitors of a known crappy brand on any Asus A7N8X motherboard?

I wouldn't assume that the Asus A7N8X motherboards are clear from the bad
cap plague, because Asus is known to mix different brands of capacitors!

Also, some people on many message boards complain about their Asus A7N8X motherboards behaving strangely, ranging from audio problems to sudden motherboard death.

Most of the recent Asus boards I've seen are using genuine Rubycon caps. Abit I believe has also learned their lesson and now uses Rubycon is most of their boards. I think AOPEN, MSI, Gigabyte, and Shuttle are the only ones out there there still using the really crappy ones. I had a 3 month old Aopen P4 board in a few weeks ago with bloated caps.

I'd feel safe buying an Asus board these days.

What about the A7N8X? Because that motherboard has been around for a while, now.

Hey cool forum you guys have here.

My A7N8X-Delux has Nichicon caps near the CPU and OST everywhere else.

Any comments on these other then the OST's are no good? I recently replaced the power supply and went with a good Enermax due to stability issues. Everything appears stable now.

I've replaced caps in many boards in the past.

One trick I use to clear the holes, I strip off about 6 inches of copper phone wire and run it through the hot solder, it grabs it and pulls it out of the holes. Works like a charm with very little time needed. I like to keep the heat exposure to the board at a minimal duration.

So are the Nichicon's any good? How about Panasonic caps? Like the FC series?

            Edit:

Ohh by the way this is a Ver 2.0 board.

Welcome to the boards! Yes, Nichicon and Panasonics are good brands.

                Haa, that's funny. I had a VP6 with a bunch of Jackcon's on it.

BTW, I will not buy another Abit board ever again, Two BE6-II's , two BP6's and a VP6 ...all with the cap problems.

I only buy ASUS and Tyan these days.

Any comments on what Tyan uses?

I gave up on Tyan back in the socket 7 days. Had too many dual Pentium classic boards (Tomcat's) that were flaky or just didn't work at all....

A7N8X Deluxe Sudden Death -- Possible bad capacitors

I am actually quite amazed at how many people are having issues with bad caps!! My Asus A7n8x Deluxe mobo suddenly froze last night while working on a project. My computer has not had any major issues and has not had any random reboots or problems where the system will freeze. I do work my system very hard, but I have all high end parts with sufficient cooling and a 550W PS thats only 1/2 year old.

Anyways, last night after the system suddenly froze, I rebooted the system and the system will now no longer post! Both my monitors are now black (duel monitors with Radeon 9800 Pro) and now nothing works at all. I have owned the board for a few years now and have not had any issues. I am at work now, so I cant check to see if thats what my problem is.

I do have a feeling that this is the issue since my friend with the exact same board had a similar issue a few months back. I worked on his system for hours trying to diagnose the system with no luck. I did not check his caps as I did not realize that it could be a cause of his problems. I have also just recently had my computer at work (cheap mini atx dell) go out. I looked inside and noticed that all the caps on the mobo were budged and leaking fluid, so I was postive the board was bad. The dell at work was only a year old! Since so many systems I have come across in the past few months have had this issue, I have a feeling that when I get home tonight I will discover the same problem on my board too! If this is indeed the problem, I will post some pics later on...

Checked my mobo at lunch and I actually didnt find any caps that looked bad. I am now at a loss as to what my problem is. I still think its the mobo, as my friends system did the exact same thing (after a reset the system never was able to post. ) and everything worked fine after he replaced it. I replaced with extra video card to make sure and still the same problem.

I will probibly just buy a new board as they are around $90 online right now... :?

Sorry to revieve a dead post but I'm wondering if this could be my issue as well...I've never looked at the caps on my board as a potential problem. I have one of the newer A7N8XE-Deluxe mobos, which is essentially the same motherboard (feature wise) than the A7N8X-Deluxe, except it uses at Marvell integrated Gigabit ethernet port versus the 3Com 100Mbps port.

I went from a 1.04 A7N8X-Deluxe with a 2500 Barton (333FSB) (Rock solid) to a A7N8XE-Deluxe with a 3200 Barton (400FSB) and since then I've experienced random blue screens of death and crashes out of games... From other forums people have stated the Asus nVidia2 chipset boards are just unstable by nature...and they recommend MSI ABIT and just about everyone else on the list of Bad Caps....(damned if you do...damned if you don't....)

When I do a fresh o/s install the issue tends to go away for a while...then will creep back... One potential other issue (and this is my fault...and when I redo my system I'll do this) is that I haven't updated the Forceware chipset drivers from the initial disk that came with the mobo...
