I just picked up a new ATI crossfire 3200 motherboard to replace my Epox 9NPA+ (the Epox has issues with my X1950XT).. The board i selected is the Asus A8R32-MVP deluxe.. I'm testing the board throughly with the X1950XT in it, where Oblivion would artifact badly and hardlock the system, with no POST unless the system was unplugged from the wall and plugged back in.. In short, a very hard crash.. At first i replaced the power supply.. The original PSU was a 400W Bluestorm Fortron. Now i've got the 550W GLC model Fortron.. Turns out the PSU was not the problem, as it would still artifact and crash.
Anyway, enough backstory.
So the new A8R32 MVP has nice quality caps, with UCC KZG on most of it, with a couple of Panasonic FC's.. The VRM output caps are all Fujitsu Polymer ones.. 8X 820uF at 2.5V.. It looks like Vdimm also has them a bunch of 820uF's at 6.3V. They almost look like the SMT caps on a video card, but these are through hole.. They have red writing on the bare aluminum shell, with no PVC sleeving.
I've read about the issues with the yellow sleeved ones getting a slight swelling, but no outright failures with electrolyte all over the place.. I do have another Asus board with the yellow Fujitsu's, and so far they're looking good..
So far the Asus is testing well, with no corruption or crashes.. I just wonder about these Fujitsu caps.. They're so small they would fit in a laptop quite nicely..
