    Recommendations for 22μF 16V capacitor

I have a motherboard that has a few 22μF 16V capacitors on it, they are S.I. branded with no series identifier, only that they are 105°C rated. I know that these are probably too small to need recapping, but one snapped off and will need to be replaced. Does anybody have a recommendation on brands and series to consider for replacing this capacitor?

    Thanks,
    Justin

Most everyone here likes Panasonic FC or FM series caps.

      Here you go:

"We have offered them (the Arabs) a sensible way for so many years. But no, they wanted to fight. Fine! We gave them technology, the latest, the kind even Vietnam didn't have. They had double superiority in tanks and aircraft, triple in artillery, and in air defense and anti-tank weapons they had absolute supremacy. And what? Once again they were beaten. Once again they scrammed [sic]. Once again they screamed for us to come save them. Sadat woke me up in the middle of the night twice over the phone, 'Save me!' He demanded to send Soviet troops, and immediately! No! We are not going to fight for them."

        Thanks for the replies!

@Difficilus - Neither the FC nor FM lines are made with a 22μF 16V capacitor.

@mockingbird - I read somewhere on this forum that the Nichicon PW are not suitable for PC motherboard usage, I don't know if that individual was mistaken or not.

One last question, would I be better off using a 22μF 50V capacitor from a low ESR series like the Panasonic FC or FR series, or would it really matter in this instance?

Re: Recommendations for 22μF 16V capacitor

The motherboard has several areas in which capacitors are used.

Some sections (like the area near the cpu which gives power to it and the area very close to the memory modules) require high quality capacitors with very low ESR, in which case Nichicon PW series is not suitable.

However, in these kind of sections it's unlikely that 22uF capacitors were used, and even so they weren't very low ESR in the first place.

So these capacitors were either in some areas that don't require high end capacitors or the designers of the board determined general purpose capacitors were OK to be used there.

Nichicon PW series will be ok.

Panasonic PC will also work, Rubycon ZLG will do just fine.

If you can't find in stock capacitors rated for 16v, you can go for 25v rated capacitors without any worries, except paying attention to the diameter of the capacitors (you want them to fit on the board)

As for: would I be better off using a 22μF 50V capacitor from a low ESR series like the Panasonic FC or FR series, or would it really matter in this instance?

FC is not really that low esr, it was a low esr capacitor years ago but what they considered low esr then is now just average. FR is much better than FC at the ESR.

I don't think it would affect the board and how it works, if you go for FR or FM series from Panasonic, but you have Nichicon PW and FC which are just less to worry about.

Thanks everybody, I will give the Nichicon PW a try then.
