    Help identifying a bad capacitor

This ceramic cap is from a small DC brushless motor.

IT appears that the markings say L12 on the first line, and then 17004 on the second line.

Any information on what it is, and where to find a replacement would be awesome! Thanks.

Hi - can you try gently cleaning it up with isopropyl alcohol on a qtip looks like there is another letter before L12. Are there any more like it on the board? and does it have a "C" board designation.

Re: Help identifying a bad capacitor

I finally went and dug out the other matching bad motor I have, and you are correct!

It says SL12 on the first line, and 17004 on the second. I looked around, and see some references to this type of inrush current limiter, but I still have questions...

      1. Where can I buy a good quality replacement?
      2. Should I be looking for something a little different to make this motor more robust to this type of failure in the future? Something with more inrush capacity maybe?

      Thanks for the help!

OK SL12 17004 is an inrush current limiter 17.5ohms 4 amps

        They are available at digikey.com.

Amtherm make them and they have various sizes/values.

I dont know what the consequesnces qould be of fitting say
        a SL15 30005 I tried to find a SL12 1700 with a bigger amps but could not see one.

You can wait and see if a member knows the answer or
        perhaps contact amertherm
