Navigation display static and screen problems...can this be a bad caps?

Hey guys. I've been trying to connect a 2002 Toyota Matrix Nav System into a 2008 car. The plugs are different and the diagrams/schematic have 3 wires that dont match. The speaker wires, power and gnd are easy. The wires dont match have to do with LCD Dimmer, LCD (something else, backlight i think), and Illumination. I think i figured out the illumination one.

But the problem is with the display. There are a bunch of static, lines and waves on the screen when you first turn it on. Kind of like a bad tv reception but not exactly. The thing that makes me think it might be cap related is that about 20 min later the picture gets much better. Its doesn't get perfect but the lines/waves get really small and not all that noticeable.

I had a problem with my Monitor before that was cause by bad caps, but it was alittle different. The monitor screen would just be dark for the 1st 20 (or so min) and then after some time would be bright and the picture was perfect. With the NAV its bright when you 1st turn it on. The similarity is that the picture gets better with time, not the brightness but the waves gets small.

What do you guys think? Is this a cap problem? Did i wire this thing up wrong? Or is the unit defective?

I'll take pics of the screen if needed.

Okay, I can't know for sure. The veterans probably know better...but it doesn't REALLY sound like bad caps. It might be possible, but it seems more like a signal problem of some sort.

If you have easy access to the board, the easiest way to find out is by simply looking around. Not all caps will make it obvious that they are problematic, so writing down the series/company of the capacitors would be helpful.

But I don't think it really sounds like bad caps. Does it work alright in the old car?

It is a bit different from the monitor problem, i just dont under why the screen would look better with time (not perfect).

Unfortunately i can't swap it out and test in another car (got the unit from Ebay).

I guess i should just open it up and see if there are any visibly bad ones, but figured i asked here to see what people thought.

I'm no expert with this kind of stuff. It might be bad caps, but personally, I think not. Checking out the board would be helpful.

All same images and you need to post at 800x600 no larger. Resizing required.

          Cheers, Wizard

well it could be I have seen that before (mostly on older car screens ie toyota soarer) and when the caps warm up they start working better, but if it was caps it would most likely be be a common fault have you put the model number into google and seen what comes up ?
