i know this guy is not going to repair the board eventually but i am interested to know what you guys would recommend, i have one of those but working ok for now.

From my recent experience, I'd recommend trying the mobo with a different/new PSU. Just in case the "no boot" problem is related to bad caps in the power supply.

I have the P4S533, which is the same board except its an SIS chipset. Has rubycon mcz caps stock from asus, and runs great.

I too have the P4S533 with rubycon and taicon caps. This board has served me in various capacities for somewhere between 5 to 7 years now. It's final assignment is as a Media Server running unRAID. I'm up to 4TB of space right now and plan to push it to the unRAID max of 16TB. As you can imagine, I'm expecting this board to serve in this capacity for many years to come and continued reliability is extremely important to me.

Imagine my concern when I was inspecting the board last week and I noticed one of the tiacon caps bulging and leaking. That's how I found you guys!! I've been reading and have learned a lot. In a pinch I replaced the failing 1500uF 6.3v tiacon with a no-name 2200uF 10v (NEV2200M10FE), which was the closest thing I could find at my local electronics supply store.

I'm up and running now but I want to replace all the 1000uF (and higher) tiacons when I next remove the board to install it in a new case. (which is happening soon).

taicons to be replaced include:

5 - 1500uF 6.3v
9 - 1000uF 6.3v
3 - 1200uF 16v

From what I've been reading on this forum its not really a bad thing to go up a step AND I want to go with Rubycon MCZ caps - so here is my planned replacement:

5 - 1800uF 6.3v
9 - 1000uF 10v
3 - 1800uF 16v

Again, the specs aren't exact but I'm trying to go with the Rubycon MCZ and this is as close as I could get while shopping on eBay. If I mix with MBZ I might be able to get closer to stock specs but I heard that the MCZ's are even better as far as low ESR goes (up to 40% lower than MBZ).

I'd welcome your thoughts.

willawake - After looking at the pic of your board from the link what I thought to be Rubycon caps (from the color) really are Tiacon. It's hard to read the caps while the board is installed but the vent (X v.s. K shaped) tells the story. Looks like what I thought were Rubycon are actually 5 - 3300uF 6.3v Tiacons.

I could not find suitable replacments in Rubycon MCZ so I'll have to go with Rubycon MBZ replacments on these.

OK. My P4S533 is recapped with Rubycons and it boots just fine.

Do you think there would be any benefit to add caps to the empty spots between the PCI slots? It's pretty easy to guess what their values should be as some PCI slots already have caps installed.

Unless you have some heavy PCI cards plugged in then it's probably not necessary.

Best way to check those spots is to use a multimeter, find what caps those pads are in parallel with, and use that same size.
It's best not to assume anything without using the multimeter, because the pads might not be connected where they appear to be.

I added missing caps near RAM and PCI on a couple P2B-F Slot-1 boards. It just slightly improved the boards' ability to POST more smoothly while overclocked and overloaded with ram. Overall it didn't make much difference, but I felt like doing it anyway.

Also note that the more you increase capacitance, the more strain you put on the power supply when starting up.
