    Belinea BJ10003

    Hey guys,

Got a 22" belinea 0. display,Its been in the loft/attic for a while,In its original box & wrappings all sealed up..it was working when it went up and now its not.

I first switched it on and the green light, and the screen were flashing very quick..then i turned it off and tried again...nothing,No lights.

So i open up the back to take a look inside (for bulging caps etc) they "Visually" look fine,I have replaced the T2 5Amp fuse on the PSU board...plugged it in and tried again,The green light flashed once and that was it..nothing again.

It gets VERY cold during the winter and quite warm (in the summer) up in the loft/attic ,could this have killed/dried out the caps?

Ive noticed they used HERMEI,Think replacing them with United Chemi-Con or Panasonic of the same values woud fix this monitor?

Yes, hermei caps are poor but not many belineas feature on here.
    Did your fuse blow again?

    Welcome to the forum-
We can help a lot more if you please post good clear pictures of the whole chassis, and then pictures of each board, front and back (in the same orientation) and close up of connectors, (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) using the manage attachments button, which is found by clicking "go advanced" under quick reply.

Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

It will be useful if you can say what the supposed fault was and a bit about yourself - skills tools etc.

Hello and thanks for your reply,

Well i have already removed the two boards so i could take a look underneath them,These are the best pictures i can take as i don't have a real camera so hope they will be enough!

As for supposed fault,To be honest i have a gut feeling that sitting in a VERY cold loft during the winter,The monitor was working fine when it went up sometime last year and was put back in its orig box & wrappings.

as for myself,Ive had a keen interest in electronics for a while, and watch a heap load of electrical repair vids on Youtube,Replacing Caps (seems) easy enough to do so thought wth i might as well try and repair it,If not its no big loss...Done some Soldering back in Technology Collage so i do have some experience but not a huge amount.

I'm borrowing a Soldering gun & Solder from a friend.

So far to replace all the caps i would need the following

      Power Supply
      5X 470mf 35V
      2X 1000mf 16V
      X5 470mf 25V
The big filter cap,I don't know what its values are as they're on the side its lying down on...all i can see is 400V :/

      Other board
      X1 1000mf 10V

I do apologize for the quality :/
Here is a Vid of what happens,You cant really see it in the vid but the screen flashes too as with the green power light.

You are correct - the pictures are poor.

Normally we say do not bother changing the big cap but before doing so I would like you to test it.

It is HIGH voltage 300vdc+ so you will need to be careful.
If you have crocodile clips for your meter lead use them.
Set meter on 600vdc and put one probe on each leg of the big cap.
Keep it on test for a few seconds and see if it fluctuates at a similar rate to the power light

Nothing i can do about it pal,I don't have a proper camera so my phone is all that i can use.

I don't have a Meter,This is literally my first attempt at replacing caps ever,I have however done soldering in the past and do know what value caps to get.

Did you see the Vid?...Would you say that's caused by caps?

We cant really help you if you cant do any tests.

One useful bit of info might be that you should use low esr caps for replacements we usually recommend panasonic FR FM or FC in that order
( Not all sizes available in all 3 series) or nichicon or rubycon equivalents from a reputable seller ( probably not ebay)

Another is that CPC (Farnell) have a free postage offer on at the moment.

                Sorry for my late reply,

I know you cant tell me exactly whats wrong with it,But i was just going to replace all the caps on the board (as they're cheap enough) and try it again to see it it works,If not its no big loss.

The trouble im having,is getting matching (brands) caps..that are 5mm Lead Spacing.
on Farnell i can get all matched Panasonic FR series (in the values i need) and 5mm Lead Spacing,But Farnell require you to buy minimum order value is £20 for paying with a card which is pathetic.

So theyre out of the question,I dont need 20 caps!

                Ebay i can get matching United Chemi-con 470uf 25 & 35v caps with 5mm Lead Spacing,But not the 1000mf 16v..they're all 3.5mm Lead Spacing.

Did you try CPC like I said they have an offer on at the moment?

                  http://cpc.farnell.com/

You dont need to match brands

                    I did,they have the caps i need,But are overpriced..£15.80 for 13 Rubycon LZ series.

                    £5.95 handling charge..whats that all about. :/

                          Well little update,

Got all the caps,Replaced them and it still don't work,Exact same results..flashing green power light and screen flashes.

Not worth putting anymore money into it so looks like it will go to the bin. :/

thats bad news. I have been trying to decipher a polish site -a few people seem to have had problems with the processor chip or eeprom - cant tell which.
Rather than bin it perhaps sell for parts on ebay or if like me you cant be bothered with that, offer for free on Freecycle or Freegle. If it was in my area I would be glad to have a play with it.

One of the most common causes of the Power LED flashing,is that one or more of the Driver Mosfets has failed. You have 4 of them in line on the bottom of the Board driving the Inverter transformers,so it may be worth locating the Datasheet for them ,and doing some testing...another hour or so may well supply the answer !!

Yeah,Don't have the proper equipment,I borrowed the soldering gun & Solder from a friend.

Even though i didn't manage to fix the problem,It was a fun learning experience replacing them caps.

I could sell it for parts,But with postage,Ebay fees etc and not knowing exactly what works and what doesn't...its a lot of hassle and money wise..probably wouldn't be worth it.

This is after i replaced most of the bigger caps..only one i did not replace is that big filter cap.
You can probably tell by my soldering im a noob.
