Vizio M420NV display is mirror image

    To the brain trust:

I have a Vizio 42" TV on my bench that powers up and lights up just fine, but the image displayed on screen including the menu is a mirror image of what it should be. From what I gather on other posts, this would be a problem located on the main board and would not be fixable with any kind of a reset.

Is this correct? Should I start looking for a replacement main board or is there any component that I may be able to replace and get this thing working properly?

    Thanks.

Can't you just mount a mirror on the wall behind it and turn the TV around? =D

Unfortunately, this TV belongs in some manager's office, so just leaving it reversed, or using a mirror is not an option in this particular case.

Was this TV worked on by someone else before? Some of the LCD panel has a control line for picture orientation on the LVSD cable.

As far as we know, it has not been worked on by anyone previously. The TV was working fine last week, but over the weekend we had some bad weather and power was lost to the building. So, I suspect a power surge of some kind has caused this mirror imaging issue. Of course they did not have the unit plugged into a UPS.

Powered on-off, also tried holding the power button for 30 seconds, used the remote to do a reset to factory settings. Nothing simple seems to work. The question is, where is the problem? Main Board, T-Con Board? How do I tell where the image is being reversed?

I know that Panasonics have the option in Service Mode to mirror the image. Vizio may have include that on their sets. Maybe someone accidentally accessed the mode.

                Found this:

                Turn the Vizio TV off.
Press and hold the CH + & CH – buttons on the TV.
Then press and release the POWER button on the TV Vizio.
Release the CH+ & CH- buttons.
Now press the MENU button on the remote.
You should get your regular menu up, but with a “F” in the bottom right corner of the menu (This if for factory reset).
Press and hold the MENU button for few seconds.
The Service Menu will be displayed.
                Hope that helps.

The main board eeprom may have gotten scrambled.

Re: Vizio M420NV display is mirror image

Well, I was able to get to "Help" and "Reset to Factory Settings" by entering 0000. The TV reboots, but comes back with the same reversed image. In all my searching, it looks like the TCON board would be the culprit, since both the screen display AND the menu are both affected. Going to call the guys at shopjimmy tomorrow as they have some of these boards for sale. I will get their opinion before ordering one, though. $51.95 is cheaper than a new TV if this is really my issue.

Well, this is bad news... This is from Randy at shopjimmy:

"A fold-over issue such as that means a short in the lcd panel most of the time, The t-con usually will not cause that issue. Mains almost never can cause that issue.

                      Regards,

                      Randy "

How about flipping the panel over?
Course you will have to flip over most likely the boards too.

I would not expect to get good pictures if there is shorts in the panel unless it has to do with the control pin that flips the picture. Do you have the LCD panel model number?

The problem was the Main Board. The indications were as follows: mirror image on video and menu display, no sound from speakers, one non-functional HDMI input.

I just wanted to let everyone know that this TV has been repaired.
