    Bad KZGs on NEW Intel D850MD / D850EMD2

    Haven't had too many cap repairs lately, but thought I would show you guys this one;

    2 motherboards, "new" from a seller on eBay. Both have two KZGs near the CPU; both bad on the first example, but on the other only one KZG is bulged.

    Interestingly, both static bags have been taped twice, so they have been opened (seller says he updated them all to the latest BIOS), but show no signs of actual use. I've heard of new bad caps in existence (especially on NOS stuff, and these boards are likely 2002-2003) but never seen them first-hand before.

    Anyone else ever have similar findings?

    It's been known to happen with fuhjyyu before.
    I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

    No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

      The date code on the KZG I can see is October 23, 2001.
      .
      I can see that happening if the boards were stored someplace excessively hot in the summer.

        I thought caps have to have heat + electricity to bloat

          Nope just heat works, toss one in a fire and watch it explode.

              All they have to do is make gas inside.

                    I've seen used OST units (not bulging) bulge by themselves without any energy applied to them, despite removing them from a circuit when they were not bulging.
