Where do I find tourque specs on WD drives?

I'm looking for the torque specs for the lid on western digital drives and looked all over the net. Found all kinds of pdf on those drives but not specs on that anywhere. I have someone in town that has a special screwdriver that can be set but i don't know the lbs per inch.

Western Digital site is pretty much useless for finding anything.

The model is a WD400BB. Would appreciate if someone can point me to a site that shows it.

Proprietary information and is going to be different for each drive.

I recommend the "adjust until it works" method.

Did I talk to you on the phone a day ago or so? Proprietary information for some bloody screws? What is that some ancient chinese secret like laundry detergent or something. Some fucking screws are top secret like missle launch codes now, what a joke. Meanwhile the chinese are hacking us daily and stealing.

it's not even a joke it's not funny at all in the least them stealing shit from us.

This is getting beyond ridiculous, now cars have chips in them that are closed source and the only way to work on your car is that you can't but take it to a dealer. What a scam keeping everything secret like the pounds per inch for a screw and now you can't even work on your own car until someone finds a way to hack it.

Information should be free in a free society, we aren't the old soviet union yet i hope.

Can you get access another drive? then you can use your friend torque screw driver to find out what the torque will be (it will close enough), set the screwdriver to the lowest setting and try it, when it clicks, then you just set the torque higher, until it does not click any more then that should be close to the torque setting point.
Does he has one of this?

Well i did talk to someone from Gillmore that said 5 to 10 ft lbs is close enough but others I talked to said it was a trade secret. Funny as hell and this company i'll send the drive to if i can't get it to work or read data.

"lid on western digital drives" are you talking about the aluminium protective cover on the drive or something else?

Re: Where do I find tourque specs on WD drives?

He's asking about the actuator arm torque for setting the angle of the arm.

It's going to be different for each drive, at the factory there is an alignment fixture they use to setup them up. The information is proprietary because they don't want their competitors to know. Try asking any of the manufacturers, they won't tell you any technical information about their products beyond what's mentioned in the datasheet.

The DR companies know a lot of this info but keep it secret too, for their own economic reasons.

Funny how he used the word 'LID', not the 'the actuator arm torque'

Because the lid is screwed on to the case and the arm itself plus the spindle on the platters. What else can you call the lid it's just the aluminum top with tiny torx screws.
