Things not to do with a multimeter?
    by Sofian75
I started to learn laptop repair a few weeks ago, since then I ve ordered several dead laptops to try to fix them and learn.
I fixed some of them and some I ve made things worse by blowing components.
Every time while taking measurements with my multimeter.

Yesterday I was working on a dell laptop motherboard, I was checking the charge IC for short in diode mode and it killed the chip.

So my question is are there things I should not do with my multimeter?
Or measurements I should do only with the charger and battery unplugged?...

What's the use use of these things?
    by LearningToRepair
    Hi!

I have attached image to this post.

I have marked some cloth sleeves with nr 1 and some plastic cover with nr 2. Does anyone know what is the use of those and are they required? These sleeves with nr 1 are not shrinking tubes. but since they are already around insulated wires, I cant think of any practical use so I thought I would ask those smarter than me. Other thing is plastic cover on top of transformer. Would something happen if it were removed? If the metal case is grounded and some parts of transformer's outer metal frame touch the metal case, would some...

HANNSG Hi221 -- 2 secs to black feat. CCFL flicker & "burn" marks on power board
    by ttmi100x
    Greetings everyone,

I have a HANNSG Hi221 monitor that exhibits two seconds to black issues (backlight goes off, display is still on as confirmed by shining a flashlight on it) with some additional oddities...

The monitor failed on me with a standard "2 seconds to black" some time ago prompting me to initially replace most of the electrolytic capacitors (some of them were bulging/leaking).
Things kinda sorta worked for a night, then the problem returned along with some flickering and "buzzing" noises.

    Upon closer inspection...

    Hello everyone!

I'm Mark from the Netherlands, 40 years old and have been messing around with computers and laptops for around 10 years now, repairing and upgrading them. I've seen the badcaps forum several times, but never got round to subscribing (until now that is).

I've studied electronics in school, and that's also where my interest (still) is. I love fixing things, and hate throwing things away (things that are fixable that is).
