    LOL

I replaced the AS15 and it looks like a fix!

I appreciate you all sharing your experience with me, for sure.

Thanks for the ChipQuik tip, too. Easy off, and not _too_ hard soldering the new one back on. (Note to future self: when ready to solder new ic, hide the ChipQuik from reach.)

By the way, any idea where these "clips?" would fit back on? I originally opened the back with the set vertical and they just tumbled out.

    Best regards!...

A good scrub with IPA shows a good looking connx on the AS15.

I pull up the service menu with mute 1 8 2 pwr and the test pattern options don't seem to be available.

I wish I could pin down where this set's problem lies. It seems like there should be a better way than just swapping out chips and boards willy-nilly.

I guess I will wait for my replacement AS15 to come in and and see where it goes from there.

Thanks for the looks and consideration....

It does look askew, doesn't it? I will take a closer look tomorrow.

There is no test point for VREF 3, 4, 5 that I can find. Are there points on the
chip or a connector I can probe?

Do the other V's look reasonable?

Well, rather than jump in and replace the gamma chip (which I am actually looking forward to trying - besides which the replacement chip is a couple weeks away delivery from China) I measured the VREF's ON THE t-con board as follows:

    REF 1 17.9
    REF 2 17.3
    REF 6 12.0
    REF 7 11.2
    REF 8 10.8
    REF 10 9.0
    REF 11 8.9
    REF 12 8.0
    REF 13 7.3
    REF 15 5.5
    REF 16 5.1
    REF 17 4.4
    REF 21 0.7
    REF 22 0.4

I have replaced the four 1000uF electrolytics and two blue film caps on the power board.

Now I will connect everything back together and measure vgamma's ??

I only see 14 VGAM labeled, but no test points corresponding to them. Could they be under the ID sticker with (8?) more TP's?

    Or, what should be next?...

I have the caps on order.
Not to put the horse before the cart, but I don't find a replacement t-con board for sale anywhere, but shopjimmy has a chip that might be correct. What are the chances I can replace that chip with just a soldering iron if I need to go that route?...

A free TV. It comes back on with a normal picture after being turned off, but becomes more and more solarized with time on.

I shot cold spray over most of the boards' parts with no effect.

I haven't measured any voltages anywhere yet. Three of the four big caps on the power board might be a little bulged on top.

    The menu has normal colors.

I re-seated the cable between the main board and the t-con board - ng.

Any advise on how to proceed?...

  • Re: Philips 32PFL3403D/F7 No picture - FIXED

I returned the -1 main board that didn't work and got a -2 board
    that does.
    Thanks,

    Good thought.
The symptoms Shop Jimmy shows do not coincide with what I am
seeing, but I would almost give it a try if replacing the board
    hadn't started showing such promise.
$15 EEPROM very iffy versus $50 main board maybe. I think I
will go ahead with a different matching main board.
    Thanks.

The CB-- is the same, but the other big number -2 is a -1.

The good folks at paylesscomponents in KC (on ebay) are
letting me return the board for the cost of shipping.

I originally searched for the part using the TV model number.
Now, using the CB- number turns up a couple of boards with a -2 suffix
(also a couple with a -3 suffix, but just what I need is one more variable).

    I shall try again.
    Thanks for the inputs.

Disconnecting the button board it does still scroll.

Batteries out of remote - still scrolls

Batteries out of remote - button board:
Volume up - causes momentary pause (cmp)
    Volume down - cmp
Menu - cmp, but does not bring up menu.
    Channel up - cmp
Channel down - has no effect
Power - cmp, but doesn't turn the TV off (but it will turn TV on).

Well. I have a live screen after finding a loose LCD cable, however.
After turn on, it tries to find active channels, scanning ....
Looking at SOURCE it says next source TV AV1 etc and when it finishes
scanning TV source it scrolls quickly through the options and keeps
    rescanning TV over and over.

Putting up the menu, it simply scrolls rapidly through every choice on
the menu and repeats scrolling scrolling scrolling..... unstoppable.

    >by scrolling, I don't mean the picture scrolls up...

OP here. So I replaced the main board (a -1 replacement instead of -2)

Now I have INV ENA 3.3V and DIM 3.3V coming into the power board
and exiting the power board into the left board.
    Still no picture.

There is still no light indicating 120V in,
but I can turn the power on with the button or the remote, resulting
in a white power light coming on, however, I can only turn it OFF with the remote.

Seems like it only sort of fixed the main board problems.

    What...

    Hi,
I bought a power board off ebay for $45 and swapped it in.
It may have helped a little, but my buddy with the TV says it
still goes out every once in a while and he just watches his
little TV until the darn thing decides to come back on within
a day or two. Hope you have better luck.

    Thanks.
The main board is 715T2838-2. There is a -1 board available for sale. Should that work?
Also, would applying a ~3V battery to INV ENA and DIM tell me anything useful, or might it be a smoke-making mistake?

    Hi,
I was wondering if I could get some help with this tv.

With both connectors hooked up, I plug in power and have
5v on the connector pins marked 5v. There is no power indicator
light on. I turn the tv on with the button, and no indicator lights still.

(When I first started looking at it, I could turn it on with the remote
also and a white indicator light came on, but no more)

Now with the power on, I see 24V, 12V, 5v and 2.42V on the STB pin.
The INV ENA pin shows 0.10V and the DIM pin reads 0.05V.
