    Hi,
I'm getting into repairing electronics and I have a number of laptops that could use a little bit of work. I'm hoping to find information, schematics and overall advice.

    Thanks

      Hello,

I run a laptop repair business from home in Essex UK. I have been doing it for the past 10 years and have recently got more into the electronics side of it.

I joined mainly to get a BIOS dump but having looked around it seems like just the place I need to be.

I have a 1988 Macintosh SE/30 I'm trying to repair. Maybe I'll get help with that too.

      Thanks for having me.

      Sue.

                                        Hi guys,

As my profile name hints at, I am a retired electronics tech/embedded software developer. I started my career at an isolated paper mill in Zululand in the 70s, where we worked on things from 2-way radios, CCTV, thyristor drives, PLCs, various sensors, pagers (anyone remember those) that had been dunked in beer or worse by disgruntled users. That isolation meant we had to innovate and so we designed a number of custom electronic circuits to solve problems. It was a great learning experience which included experimenting with 6800 micro-controllers using Machine Code.

From there I went on to repair industrial instrumentation at a company specializing in temperature control and thermocouples, which led to me designing a range of thermocouple transmitters and other instrumentation for one of the guys there who left there to start his own company. This was followed by a job at a defense industry aeronautics company from 2001 until I retired this year. This was an amazing job and a great place to work at, one where I learnt C and C++ for embedded devices, utility PC applications in Object Pascal (Lazarus) and C#, and did electronic design in a structured environment. We also provided support for work on the aircraft, and when one of the test benches went down we were often called on to diagnose and possibly repair. All great fun.
