Nice to see a forum that actually talks basic principles of electronics repair.
I'm also known as the MI Tax Wizard, MITAXWIZARD.com
I started repairing TV's in Wheaton IL at the age of 7 ---1959 when you generally only had the figure out which vacuum tube was bad or weak by taking them to the local hardware, TV electronics store of even 5 & dime store to test. To be fair my grandfather was an inventor, who challenged me to fix the TV if I wanted to watch it.
Out of High school in 1970 I went to work at the Chicago Board of Trade, all the companies shared one computer the size of our local Hillsdale County Court house, it used 80 digit punch cards to input info. I learned Fortran and the new Ansi Cobol. During college I passed and received my radio broadcast license and volunteered at our local Radio station, After college I opened a accounting and tax office which I computerized in the mid 1980's. When I realized that I could build my own$5,000 Intel 286, with "Huge" 40mb hard drive myself for about $1,850, which became a secondary business helping my small business clients computerize. I was even Novell certified, a Microsoft, IBM, Brother, Sharp, Panasonic, Okidata, HP reseller and authorized service center, generally we limited service to printers and computers. I still build my own computers, not for saving costs, but to understand current technology to be able the easily repair the systems and to minimize office down time.
----------Thanks Topcat, for creating this site and everyone who contributes, which saves everyone a great amount of frustration of trying to find accurate support and repair info.

Hi everyone, i am Richard (47) from the Netherlands, i am into laptops as a hobby and electronics basicly, doing 4 to 8 laptops a month mostly defective, so i come a long all sorts of problems, trying to become more proffesional into reading and understanding schematics and solve issue,s ,so i hope this forum will help me a lot in the future.
I live alone , never did married, no kids, only 4 cats , not having a job so mostly i spend my time with hobby,s ,and getting streetwise into electronics.
I live in a small village called : Vierpolders in Soutern Holland since almost 5 years.
I buy and sell laptops , did a lot of reflowing and way too long my interests stopped right there, but i feel the need to get a little further then that start using my brain, aint that a good idea ??, so yeah i think i can learn a lot from you people, reflowing replacing bad caps replacing a bad transistor etc is still pretty basic, so lets get it on.
And lets get start doing difficult hoping that also that becomes basic and easy.
My first item on this forum trying to fix is a toshiba satellite c850 i5 no display, many on youtube blame the amd gpu, others this and that but no really idea, i find out a bent pin on the lcd connector on the board, fixed that problem but it acts the same no display, short time ago i had a simalar on with the same problem, i believe i sold that one as defective couldn,t find the problem, i really start to find myself a looser if i have to sell it again as defective and uo to the next.
I have a lot of intereset in apple products, but mostly first looking arround and following the youtubechannel from Louis Rossman from New York, to become more wise in common problem, since i mostly did pentium and amd laptops it still is a waiting interest, and yeah i also sometimes do not fix things instead of that i break things .
Anyway this is my story .

Hi guys! I started electronics about 8 years ago, building small amps and simple laptop fixes. Through this time I have been working on over 2000 devices and designed cca20. No degree, never worked in company, techs from corporate environment visit me with diagnostics puzzles. Last year i got into vintage synths, haven't visited pornhub since.

I'm from Shropshire, UK & like to dabble in electronics of all sorts of equipment TV, Radio, HiFi. I will be visiting here on a regular basis. from some of the post ive read you all seem to be very clear when explaining things and very polite to the people that are new to electronics. Great place to visit. well done to all who participate.
