Hi. I'm an ancient cut born in the eastern block behind the iron curtain. Started computing with Commodore +4, my PC history has started in 1989 with a 4.77Mhz 8088 XT with CGA graphics and 20Mb HDD. I have always been fascinated by technology, I loved disassembling and experimenting with electronic devices from very early age. 40 years later I'm still fascinated by tech and its advancement, I'm still fixing things as a hobby and now I can find tutorials on the internet to make things easier... searching for solution has lead me to the badcaps forum.
Thanks for the community for sharing invaluable knowledge here for free! Respect!

hello .. im just here cuz i need help figuring how to rewrite my chips over a damn persistent AI BIOS ROOTKIT .... right now im using linux whixh i dont know muh about working on a dell 7300 latitude service tag 7T72Q13 this root kit has modified the bios and me regions.. i found 3 chips 2 on the board and 1 on a smlaeer board connected with a ribbon .. the one on the smaller board is a XM25QH128A the one i can on the board closest to the ram slots i cant read the top of the chip and the other is a 25q80csig .. i know the rootkit modified the chip on the smaller board because it have the same EXACT size as my other asus laptop bios modified chip that was resized and a had a shadow copy made of it so there are 2 regions on a single 16mb with a size of 16777216 MB on a 16mb chip.. i havent been able to actually read this one cuz its encrypted with a near cryptography based encrypted format so im at a loss.... nevermind i got the number from the unknown haha i got it winbond 25q80dvsig 1947

                          Hello all,

I'm an electrical engineer, with a big heart for everything electronics broken. I have a hard time throwing things away, so I like to take my time, disassembling broken things, always in the hope of fixing it.
And with expercience, I often manage to do so!
I do have access from work to good equipment, and as long as I'm not clocked in - I'm free to use whats available. Thanks for that!

Now I have the challenge to fix a notebook, and I'm looking for the schematic of it. Because it doesn't burn things up, no - modern DCDC converters tend to detect overcurrent, and go into hiccup mode. Which makes it really hard finding the root cause.
I usually then go over to apply voltage via a bench supply, with current limiter, but on notebooks, with all the different smaller voltage levels - this is risky!
So I do hope in finding the schematics!

                          BR Markus

                                      Welcome to all,
I am pensioner, 65 years old. I worked as a ISO9001 systems engineer at a factory in Oradea, Romania. I have been repairing electronics for about 35 years, initially televisions and audio equipment then laptops and computers for about 10 years. I discovered this site 2 years ago while repairing a laptop, where I rewrote the BIOS with success. I consider myself to working with professional repair equipment. My SPI and EEPROM programmers are not the best but they work: CH341A and EZP2019+.

                                      With consideration, Zsolt Becze
