Hi I am a retired mechanical engineer who likes to tinker. I have been using computers since they first appeared and have put together several for my own use. I have built power supplies and pre-amps using kits and following instructions which you can do without understanding whats really going on. As I am 82 years old you won't have time to make me an expert but your expert guidance will be much appreciated,

Artist seeking to tinker with electronics safely
        by Hypersapien
Howdy folks! I'm an artist in the video game industry, and my job entails making a lot of mechanical and sci fi assets. I thought it might be a good practice to start disassembling some electronics to be more familiar with how real electronics are manufactured and assembled, which is how i found my way to these forums.

When I started researching what tools I might need, I quickly encountered the warning "Some devices can maintain a potentially lethal charge in their capacitors, even up to years after last being powered on", which was enough of a scary thought for me to...

GE voluson 730 expert Motherboard no Image
        by Spongebob89
        Hello,
I have the below problem. I open the PC and it starts (CPU fan is working) but I have no image at all (not from the external VGA and neither from the on board VGA). Near to the bios chip there was some blown capacitors so I supose that something was happend with the voltage of the bios chip and the bios program corrupted or am I totally wrong? I replaced the "1" CPU with the "2" CPU and no image again. Also, I measured the CPU supply cable and it has 11,8Volt, but the strange thing is that both CPUs "1" & "2" are absolutely cold and the...
