LG 42LB5610 no reaction at all after lightning

A friend's parents gave me that 4k TV set after lightning struck our village, saying "if you can fix it...". Their insurance had paid for a new one.

It just doesn't do anything when plugged, or pushed on the I/O button.

So I thought I'd buy a new power board, but actually, it didn't change anything.

Do you guys think the motherboard could be faulty?
If so, where could i check tensions, please?

    Basic troubleshooting for dead TVs.
    1. Check main fuse. If blown, you likely have shorted components (FETs or diodes) on the power supply.
    2. Measure for standby voltage. The main board needs voltage to be in standby mode and to accept the commands to turn on the TV. If no standby voltage, the power supply is suspect. Maybe marked 5VSTB, VSB, 5V...
    3. Check for PS-ON and BL-ON signals from the main board. These two signals are used to turn on the power supply (additional voltages) and turn on the backlight. If the main board has power and it isn't sending these signals, the main board is suspect.

      Thanks Neil,

So I've checked the 2 fuses on the power supply, and they're ok.

I guess I'd need the manual to know where to check the standby voltage...?

If this is your board then the voltages to check are given

Oh well, that's absolutely true !

So I don't seem to get much, except 3.5v approximately where it's supposed to be...

I'm guessing the 12 and 24 show up when it decides to turn on...?

You can do the same test as in your JVC thread to test the power supply. For this supply connect Standby to PWR_ON and Standby to DRV_On using 1K resistors

              Cool !
Do you mean I need two resistors and connect them at the same time?
And then it should have the other tensions reappear, correct ?

Yes, the use of two resistors is correct.

Different situation here (compared to my other tv)

I connected Standby to PWR_ON and Standby to DRV_On, and I did have the backlight on.

So the mainboard is faulty, right ?

Re: LG 42LB5610 no reaction at all after lightning

If all the secondary supplies come up as well as the backlights then the power supply is working correctly.

                      I'll check that tomorrow.
And if that's the case, you suggest to get a used main board ?

This is my first attempt at troubleshooting a board like this, I know I could just buy a new board but I'm curious to figure out how this works. I've been testing different components in the evenings this week and I think the problem is with the IC failing to start up for some reason. When the board is plugged in there is no standby voltage.

Then today it randomly sprung to life like a zombie but shortly died thereafter. I have no idea why it would have done that and its the first time I've seen it running. I discharged capacitors on the board last night, then it was sitting today....

Vizio D50u-D1 Dead Set No Standby
                        by fharris1977
Hi. I got a Vizio with no power or standby, and won't turn on with remote or button. I checked the voltages on the connector and all read 0.00V or nearly 0(0.050 ON/OFF pin). None of the pins are labeled STB for standby although I do see some 5V pins. Other than the obvious standby led, which isn't coming on, is there a way to check for standby voltage on this PS. I'm trying to see if my problem is the PS or mainboard. Some Vizios I have fixed with no standby led me to think it was the PS but it turned out being the mainboard. Any experience with this set would be greatly appreciated.

                        by Crystaleyes
                        Hi all.

I started a thread while back regarding TV power supply standby circuitry as it is something I am not quite on top of.
SMPS theory and function is becoming more familiar, however the standby part is still a bit of a mystery.

Anyway, a friend has this TV with the above mentioned power supply board which has no standby voltage, nor any other voltages leaving the board.
The mains AC comes in fine, gets filtered and rectified with power is on the main filter cap as well as the transformer and drain pins of the ICE3B0665J, but that's it.

                        Yamaha TSX 120 Standby Problem
                        by psssst
Hello forum. I've recently been given a Yamaha TSX 120 DAB radio and ipod dock. Its working well however when put on standby its using 6.3 watts. The manual states less than 1 watt on standby. I measured this with a plug in monitor which seems accurate with other items. In use it uses around 7.5 watts. Firstly has anyone who owns a similar radio also got a plug in monitor to check if this is normal with this unit? In the first half a second the monitor shows 0.3 watts which I suspect is what it should use but something is switching it to be almost fully powered. I've searched the manual for eco...

                        by ChristianBr01
                        Hello everyone,
I got a Samsung The Frame 55 inch TV for free from uncle cause it is not turning on anymore. I am in the second year of training as an electrician so I have knowledge already but I am far away from to be a pro.
The TV has Standby but ist not turning on. A Friend of mine owns a 50 inch Frame TV so I checked the One Connect Box and the One Connect Cable there. Both are good and working normally. I have opened the TV case and measured some voltages on the Board.
What I already found is that the 12.8V are not an the connector to the main board connector to the power...
