    Sony KD-55X8507C Completely dead

    Hi.
I have a Sony KD-55X8507C on the mending table today.

It appears completely dead, no status LED's lighting up. Even though it's acting completely dead, the power supply is running and the heatsinks on the main ASIC's do heat up, so it's just not starting properly.

This thread has been a lot of help since someone posted an excerpt from a schematic that contains the correct LED driver chip. without that pinout, anyone's guess

The power supply has two boost converters, each run 5 strings of LED's. All LED strings i tested to have a Vf of 87V@1mA, so they are all good.

All DC voltages looks OK. The supply for the LCD boost converter is 61V. The booster is NOT running. I tried pulling BL_EN and DC_DIM to 3.3V to enable the booster. The signals get all the way to the LED driver (CXA3854) pin 5 and 11 and it has the prerequisite 12V supply on pin 24 as well.

I tested all FET's, diodes etc in the booster. All seems good.
Nothing looks, burned, only the PCB around the two FET's is slightly discoloured.

I have no gate pulses on pin 26 on both the driver chips.

So this suggests dead chips i guess, but why would both die at the same time?

Any suggestions what to check before i order some new chips?

    Thanks in advance!

Did you measure the resistance between pins 23 & 24 as per the other thread. Out of curiosity what is the Vref voltage

Resistance is Approx 300/500Ω each direction, dancing a lot up/down from caps charging up.

      Vref is 4.98V

Since i don't have the datasheet for the IC i have no idea what Vref should be.

The 5V Vref looks like a reasonable value. When Vref is a rediculously low value it can be a clue to the IC being faulty. The 300 to 500 ohms doesn't seem too bad a resistance reading.

Are the two boost converters you refer to both CXA3854 devices?

Have you compared the voltages against each other?

              Yes.

The voltages on both chips are identical +/- some mV.

              Edit:
Pins 5, 10, 11, 12 and 25 is shared on both chips (apart from supply voltage ofc.)

Hi, I disassemble my laptop to replace the speakers, to access them, you have to remove everything including the heat sink and fan, unscrew the motherboard, lift it up a bit to access the speaker wire.
that was not the first time I dissasemble it, i did replace the same speaker a few year ago and I repaste it last year, so I had nothing to worry about. but when I put everything back together, its completely dead.

After a bit of investigating, i found one pin of the status led ribbon cable that was unglued from the cable and bend touching another pin, I bend it back at his place...

T480s random shutoff and then completely dead
                by wangbreeze
                Hello Gurus,

I got a ThinkPad T480s. It was running fine but suddenly started random shut down. When it turned off, I had to push the reset pin to bring it back to life. But it got aggressively worse and became completely dead. No charging light, no life.

I did some initial diagnostics with just the board (no battery, nothing attached, and no CMOS battery as well)

Initial testing of the coil resistance seems to indicate no dead short. The only low resistance I measured was at PL701. It reads 38 ohms.
                charger gave - 20V - ok

                Completely dead MSI z490 tomahawk
                by pavski
Trying to troubleshoot MSI z490 tomahawk board and would appreciate your help. The board is completely dead and shows no activity when the power button is pressed.

I have tried to look at the Superio, the PSIN signal seems to be correct (goes from 3.3V to 0 on button press) but the voltage on PSOUT pin is quite low. I

t is only 0.8V which seems to be incorrect but goes to 0 when the button is pressed.

Can you please let me know if this is indeed incorrect and what else should I look at next?

                Thanks!

SONY KDL-46R473A ALMOST DEAD NO STB
                by bohaboha
Hello to everyone in this wonderful forum.
I have this SONY LCD TV KDL_46R473a
                PSU GL5 APS350 :1-888-122- 12
                MAINBOARD FY13_EU IP-012C101-4010
black screen ,no STB no life almost death.
on PS all the required volts are present 394V on the main cap and those on cold side 12.41V,3.45 and 3.45 are on
                Also 3,5,and 12v are on.
nothing happens if i disconnect the PSU from the mainboard as on Samsung because here i think the mainboard gives the signal to the ps.
don't know what to do next all suggestions and advice are very welcome...
