I usually avoid tvs that aren't plasma but I picked up this lcd for free yesterday.
I can see an image on screen if I shine a flashlight on it.
How do I determine if it's a bulb issue or inverter issue?

You can start by providing good clear pictures of the whole backside of the TV showing all the boards so we can see what we are dealing with.

Somehow I knew you’d say that. Lol.
I was hoping you’d be able to say “it’s the cfl bulbs” in that case I would throw it away and not even bother taking it apart.

Look at the two caps on the inverter, are they bulged? check the fuse, F1. look at the top of the ic, does it loo like it is cracked, or does a pin on the ic look over heated.

I will do all that when I open it up this evening. It’s getting to be almost not cost effective to even open up anything smaller than a 50”.

There is a small led on the inverter, when you first turn on the tv it should light up then fade out

It flashed a couple of times then stopped.

Now the tv works. All I did was remove the inverter and reinstall it.
