LG 60PK550 plasma VA voltage going crazy

    Hi all,

I'm pretty much done with the diagnosis of this LG 60PK550 plasma TV. But I want a second opinion.

The problem is that on startup the VA voltage is stable at 60 volts as it should be, then after 10 seconds it raises rapidly to 70 volts where the power supply shuts down to protect everything.

By disconnecting various boards, I've isolated the problem to the lower left XL buffer board. When I disconnect the power cable (carrying GND and VA) between the Y sustaining board and the XL buffer board, VA on the power supply side stays rock steady at 60 volts. But on the XL buffer board side VA climbs instantly to >100 volts. Doing the same on the XC and XR buffer boards, VA climbs by itself to something that never go beyond 25 volts.

Lucky as I am, I have second TV of the exact same model. Swapping all the boards from the good one to the bad one changed nothing at all.

It's clear for me that something is back feeding some higher voltage into VA through one of the XL buffer board's panel connectors. I've disconnected all eight of them, one by one, trying to isolate a shorted vertical line, or a bad flex cable glued ship, but nothing stopped the voltage leak to the XL board VA voltage.

What's your opinion on this one?

Anyone with an answer for my voltage feedback problem? Thanks.

Schematic or datasheet for Plasma TV buffer chip
      by Yanleb
      Hi all,

I'm interested in understanding how a buffer board chip is working. I know there's about 90 outputs per chip to the plasma panel, but I'm more interested to know about the input pins. I guess that some of them are address pins, but I want to know more.

So far I've found nothing at all. I haven't found any datasheet about the various buffer chips, and I haven't found any schematic for the buffer board using them (Y Buffer Board in Samsung's terminology).

Any information will make me happy. It can be from any buffer chip or plasma TV manufacturer....

TCL 55S425 few horizontal lines, potential failure on both side of panel/buffer board

All left and right refers to looking from rear of TV (or looking from front with TV upside down)
      • TV came with vertical bars and no image. Found faulty TVS on left buffer board. Also replaced T-Con (may have damaged the original while hot air removing components, board has slight warp) and have full image but few horizontal lines on the screen. Some of the lines appears to be 2 pixel tall while others are 1 pixel tall.
      • Disconnecting left and right buffer board potentially reveals problems on both sides with different signals (unless this T-Con require jumper like Samsung FB_TRDY1&3) Fault

Laptop is HP Envy x360 13-bf0013dx, hp website link, it's an i7-1250U with 8 gig onboard ram.
      Platform: ipa32 la-m024p rev 1b

Originally you'd plug power supply into it and it would take up to 1.2 amps and then drop to 200 milliamps and then go back up again to 1.2, staying all the while at 5 volts. Pressing power button would results in power LED blinking amber 3 times. 3.3 volt rail, 5.1 volt rail present, main power rail 8.8 volts. Power button test pads near EC chip 2.7 volts.

I found a short on the other side:

      Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

LG Plasma TV Bad Y Buffer Replacement
      by Bad_Boards
      Background:
I have a LG 50PA550 Plasma TV which stopped displaying a picture. The sound works just fine. The outputs of the power supply board were within 2% of the expected values. After removing the Y top buffer the bottom half of the TV started working.
      Question:
Do I have to order both a Y-Buffer and Y-Sustain board to fix this?
Could I somehow check the Y-Sustain board to see if there was any damage done to it?
