    Black vertical bar TX-P50VT30

    Hi,

I bought a broken Panasonic TX-P50VT30 with the 7 blinks problem.

There was a short in the SU-board, I replaced it because it isn't repairable.

The TV started but has a vertical black bar on the right side.

    I checked te C-connector for bad seating/contact.

Here a picture of the screen with the C-ribbons disconnected.

There is only a problem with the right collum.

Will this be a problem with the C-buffer or panel faillure?

    Thanks!

It is adviced to replace both buffers and they are repairable by replacing the chip.
This is a buffer board or SC board problem.
Did you check the part number? TNPA5336/TNPA5337?

Normally with 7 blinks and defective buffer board the sc board gets shorted on top side.
Double check the small plastic clip between the bufferboards.

Also remove the SCBoard and reflow the pads where the scews are mounted ( backside ). Or you will get 7 blinks again.

C board problem ( c board never fails but panel does ) is resulting in a VERTICAL bar. The half of your panel looks bad because of the sc board or bottom buffer board. This is not a panel problem! ( lucky you ).

So re connect all the cables and turn on the tv and take a picture of the screen.
Make sure the 3 ribbon cables on the mainboard are seated correctly.

Are the orange ribbons seated correctly?

        Hi fellow Dutchman,

It's a vertical black bar, I attached a picture with all C-board ribbons connected.

So it looks like a bad panel......

Hmm , does not have to be a bad panel. Can still be a bad mainboard.
I once bought a defective 50GT30 with vertical lines and was a mainboard issue also ( bad BGA solder ). Got a topic somewhere on this forum.
A defective panel would not show any colour in my opinion but just a black bar.

What you can do is to recheck and clean the panel ribbons with Isopropanol. Once you have done that also CLEAN and carefully check the white ribbon cables from the mainboard going to the c boards.
I once had a GT30 with vertical line almost in the middle and found out that 1 white ribbon cable had some black marks. A little burn in.....

Just recheck because i have never seen these models with bad panels and i repaired ALOT of ST/GT/VT30 models.

            Re: Black vertical bar TX-P50VT30

Btw the vertical line mentioned in my previous post was NOT fixed with cleaning the ribbon cable , it went away on its own.
I once had a 50G10 that also had a black vertical bar which went away on its own and the tv played for atleast another 2 years before i sold it.

You have the tv standing on the topside of the panel while all the heavy parts are on the bottom of the tv.
I would really clean the tv and put it on its stand and turn it on from there.

Attached picture is the GT30 with vertical lines , bad mainboard.

              Re: Black vertical bar TX-P50VT30

I checked everyting, I noticed a very small hole in the rubber from insulation of the ribbon IC with a very small black mark underneath.

For me it still isn't clear, how can I check the A-board?
I did the mirror test and it was fine.

I can reflow the BGA-chip on the A-board with hot air and flux.

You can only test it with a different a board.

                Picture of the small hole?

I have no picture of the hole on the IC isulation.

But replaced the mainboard with anotherone and the bar is still there.

So it have to be a panel problem.

In the attachment a picture of the "hole".

I will open the isulation to see whats going on there.

But I have to take the panel out of the frame to properly work on it.

Curious how that happened. Maybe the previous owner did something with the tv? You bought it as 7 blinks? ( Tv from Limburg? ).

Hi, yes I bought it with the 7 blinks, from Limburg.

There was a short at the SU-board. I asked the owner if there where no problems with the panel and he assured me that it was in good working condition.

He probably played with the tabs , this not a common problem. Hope you can still fix it.

Thanks for offering your assistance with this. I'm an electronics enthusiast with moderate level of competence (have a decent lab with two power supplies, microscope, DSO, hot air, good iron, can competently work at a component level on SMDs, design and solder own PCBs etc). I really enjoying fixing things and learning new stuff so took up a free 58" LED TV and have been googling and watching Youtube videos to see if I can fix this! I am happy to go down to individual component replacement/strip replacement etc - it's all in the name of learning.

                            Hi

                            Asking for a friend.

I'm used to black vertical line in otherwise good image - probable solution is a rubber to push and tighten the COFs bonding.
but here its the opposite !

TV has new T-con = same issue
A missing panel voltage would have global effect

So , what should one do ? how can I find where the fault is ?

                            Thanks !...
