I'd say it's a 90% chance you have a firmware issue on that. Unless you can find a dump file for your model to flash using a programmer, it's pretty much hosed.

It's hard to tell at this point, a scope would really help to see what the clock and data lines are doing. It is posible the fault is on the dvd player board and it is not communicating with the main micro. Some units look for the presents of the dvd drive, if it doesn't see its there or not functioning it may not even try to turn on.
If you look at the flow chart on page 22, LED ON? = yes, Is Digitron on normally? = NO, check CD, so maybe its time to check the CD for problems before chucking it.

Should there be a constant voltage on RXD0? TXDO & SCK0 both have 4.85v.

Oddly, on initial power up around 0.5 to 1v comes up on RXD0 but almost immediately drops out. Possibly a response from an interrogation on the Txd0 to shutdown.

Troubleshooting continues with Section C and D.

Those are data lines so with out a scope to see if there is any data its hard to say whats going on, when you get into repairs like this, a meter is not going to cut it.

I'm aware these are data comms lines and the voltages are of no real significance with a DMM but curious why txd has a constant voltage but rxd line does not, afterall the rxd line at one end will be the txd at the other end.

all 3 lines have 10k pullup resistors connected to 5 volts, there are also 220p caps to ground on each of those lines, What is the resistance to ground on that line? It could be something is shorted on that line or it could just be the state the ic is in because its not running (no clock)

Get a reading of 10.2kohm on that line between P5901 Pin 24 and ground.

There are some variations between the SM for the Marantz DV3100 and this model, one of them being R583/4 & 8 are 100ohm, not 1.2k.

Re: DVD player stuck in 'startup'?

Managed to obtain a replacement DVD laser / tray assembly but the same problem exists so its definately not the laser assembly at fault. So that just leaves the Main Controller board and Power/Interface board.
