I have a LG 42PG25 plasma TV manufactured in May 2008. The model number is 42PG60UA. It has a LGE PSU EAY39333001 PSPU-J704A Rev 1.0 power supply unit.
It has a EAX42297601 Rev J YSUS board, a EAX41603501 Rev J ZSUS board and a EAX41833301 Rev C CTRL control board.
A few weeks, the TV would power up but with a blank screen. The solid red standby light in front works. When I press the front power button, I hear a solid clunk sound and the standby light changes colour from red to blue and starts flashing blue. At about the 5th blue flash (approximately 5 seconds in) I hear a buzzing sound in the back. At about 18-19 flashes later the light stays solid blue with no screen or sound. When I turn the power button off, it takes about 11-12 second before the solid red light turns off complete with a clunk sound.
I watched a lot of LG TV repair videos that led me to believe my PSU was damaged. I ripped apart the back panel and found Capacitor C235 blown from the PSU board. I replaced it and nothing changed. I had spare 10V 3300uf capacitors and replaced C232, C233 and C234 as well and nothing changed. I checked fuse F101 and F801 on the PSU and both were good. I checked fuse FL201 on the YSUS and it was good. I checked the some voltages on the P811/P64 testing terminal right beside where the power goes from the PSU to the YSUS – all voltages were in spec for all the testing terminals (VS, VS, NC, GND, GND, VA, VA, GND, M5V, M5V).
I tried isolating the buzzing sound from the YSUS and it is sounds like it is coming from a 4 pack of glued together red capacitors C701, C702, C919 and C920 on the YSUS board, or possibly the two copper coil things I think called L901 and L701.
I am not sure if it matters, but when I turn on the TV, control board light D103 (is this a diagnostics light?) comes on but then immediately goes to D104. Light D104 stays lit up until about 60 seconds when I hear a change in the buzzing frequency ( a bit lower) and then D103 comes back on and stays lit. I also see a light on the video board (it has a sticker that stays 42PG60UA), light LD803 that stays lit up the whole time with TV tries to power on.
I really don't care for the TV as it is a power hog, old and small. But I've already started down this path of diagnostics and will not give up. Plus its kind of fun! Does anyone have any suggestions what I should test next?
