GVA- gva50fdled- strange question about stanby

    Hello guys,

I have this GVA tv that is just stuck in standby with the red light.

All the voltages seem ok, the 12v system is on for some reason however back light wont turn on even when forced. The Pon is also activated.

Bit the question I have is this, if I put 5v externally into the standby circuit should this alow the basic system to run and show a red/green light to show? Im trying to isolate wich part is at fault.

    Cheers

Have the same set which I posted about in July last - slow to turn on and getting worse as time went on. The PSU was all capxon caps and some obviously swollen - black ones have bad rep. Other sets have taken precedence and I haven't got back to it yet as first need to get all caps for complete replacement. If the main is isolated and PSU forced on the other voltages should come up if it is OK. Can't recall the markings so does BLon also have PWM or similar next to it? as both may need to be jumpered for backlights to activate.

yeah it has BLO and ADJ and literly that conector only has 2 wires going from it. so not sure if the board markings are 100%

the capacitors do look kinda dodgy, but so far the voltages seem ok. except mabee the 12v with is reading at 13.5.

what i cant work out is if i put in 5vstandy, 5v or 12v through external power supply nothing, but hook up the main power lead and we have red light action.
I want to know if this is normal or if it SHOULD at lest try and work with just 5v conected.

Simplisticly feeding power to circuit should operate it but there are ICs etc in these with interconnections to other circuits for protection etc etc so I doubt it unless to test speakers or other straightforward stuff. The pson is working so I think if you jumper a 5v to blon and adj if all OK the backlights should show. This with main board disconnected and which would then harbour the problem.

YUP, SPOT ON, putting 5v do BLON and ADJ turned on the back lights.

so the board is turning on PON but not the back lights.....weird.
for funsies Ive pulled out and replaced the windbond chip (and reprogrammed) but same issue. stuck on red light :/

with pretty much everything being controlled by the main CPU i don't know what else it could be :S

HA, nvm that WAS the fix. i was just impatient and didn't let the tv have time to start properly.

Faulty Windbond chip. Read BIN then reprogrammed into new chip. yay

Good fix. Only got back to mine recently and yes need eeprom to read correctly. Have a friend wanting the set so hopefully will be ready soon. Awaiting new chips.
