Weird anomaly on my ancient TOSHIBA 42Z3030DB

    Hi folks,

I was just wondering if anyone's heard of or experienced this happening on their TOSHIBA 42Z3030DB LCD.....

When OFF (standby), at random times during the day, the TV makes a turning on noise, the green light comes on next to the red light, for a few seconds, then proceeds to go back into standby mode again?

This probably happens 2 or 3 times a day (that I've heard)??

    Any ideas?

    Chris

If memory serves me right there was a TV that would turn on by itself in this forum. It was quite a while back. I think he tried taping off the IR, turned off OTA update and I can't remember what else.

I remember a 37Z3030DB doing this, it was checking for firmware updates for its Freeview receiver.

Oh... it does this OTA? I've never ever had an actual aerial plugged into this TV Do you know if there's some way to turn the "feature" off?

        Thanks again.

Yes, it would download firmware over the air. Usually broadcast on the dead space in the freeview mux at midnight - 2am before all the porn channels come online . It may also be trying to redownload the TV guide.

The Freeview tuner in this set is an OEM part manufactured by Vestel. (Agh! But at least that's one thing they're good at.) I don't know of a way to turn it off, there might even be an update available that it's trying to get, Vestel and other companies like EchoStar have been known to support their receivers long after they are sold.

This is a long shot , but it happened once with me . If there are nearby Fluorescent lamps , and specifically , long time used ones emitting noise , their frequencies may do strange things to Electronic devices like TVs and LCDs .

He might as well look for such rare but existent interference from similar nearby devices .

i remember a thread like that, it was a problem with the button panel.
resistance between the contacts or something.
