Panasonic TC-P58vt25 plasma, buzzing and dark screen

This was a dumpster rescue in nice condition, but I have no knowledge of it's history. When I plugged it up I could hear relays snap; when I turned it on, I saw a bright point of light in the middle of the screen, then the screen quickly went dark. It then started the typical 7 blink pattern. I pulled the buffer boards and tested them, finding one buffer board shorted. I jumped the pins on SC50, and got a solid red light but the screen was dark. Green LEDs lit up and stayed steady on the SS and SC boards, but a loud buzzing came from the area of the D board....(It is sort of hard to pin down the location--could be the power board). The main power supply board 812MDM has a large 230V 1000u capacitor that may have be swollen on the top; also the sub power board 812MDS also has a large 230v 1000u capacitor that may be swollen on top.
I would be interested in any suggestions on how to proceed.

The caps maybe be sus but some of those larger ones can have a slight dome from new. Sounds like you need to relace the buffer and it should be ok but have a good look over the panel for any cracks.

Which board Sd or Su was shorted?

If the the panel gets hit or crackes whilst on, often the Sd will be shorted

As TW2005 says , loud buzzing sound is probably bad panel. You could tighten all screws and check the voltages , maybe someone played with the potmeters.

Thanks guys. It is the SU board that is shorted. If the screen was damaged (maybe when they dropped it off) would it be likely to show a bright point of light when it was started the first time, then nothing else?

Maybe the last bit of gas ignited....., it can be that the gass inside was already gone. The panel then just makes a loud buzzing noise.

Just carefully check the whole panel for cracks with a flashlight. If there aren't any it should be ok.

Unless someone used to long screws for a board and touched the panel , happened to me once! Still sick about that 1....

Thanks guys....you were exactly right. When I checked the front of the panel with a flashlight I found a small holed.

Panasonic Plasma TH-50PZ85U No screen No blinks on red power light
                    by Alicat
                    Hello,

Stopped by this site trying to fix my parents Panasonic Plasma TV.

                    Model number is TH-50PZ85U

Power comes on and the red power light stays on solid.

Did a few checks like hold the power button on for 60 seconds, hold the - Volume while holding the menu button, no luck, still@ blank grey screen as the screen lights up very vague.

I also hear a few clicks.

I also think my parents said there was a thunderstorm and the TV failed after that.

Section 6 in the service manual talks about power and no screen,...

Panasonic Plasma screen interference on left half of screen
                    by Zelek11
My Panasonic Plasma model P55VT50 has started displaying "interference" on just the left half of the screen only (left when facing the screen). Sometimes it's concentrated in about the first 30 seconds after startup, then disappears. Other times it's fine at startup and then randomly does it later on. When it flashes the interference it's very quick and doesn't stay on the screen unless it flashes repeatedly in a row.

This image is a screen shot from a video I took. This is an example of the interference at its worst. Often the interference is much smaller...

panasonic TH-42PC77U plasma television half screen problem
                    by renech
                    hello,
I hope someone on this forum can assist me.
                    I have a panasonic TH-42PC77U plasma television.
the lower 1/2 of the screen has become flaky....in and out, then finally goes black and you can only see the top portion.
i have performed the reset to default settings quite a few times. Panasonic recommended..did not believe this would help...it didn't.
I have removed the back panel and looked around for something obvious...burn marks in a board, etc....nothing obvious...
I have read some posts that suggest the problem is related to the boards on the left...

Macbook 2017 with touchbar (A1706) won't turn on after removing the screen
                    by Ryan.man
Hello everybody! Posting this in hopes somebody has some expertise that leads to a clear path of troubleshooting that saves me a lot of time!

My macbook has the flex cable problem, the one that prevents the screen turning on. Ive been dealing with this for the last 3 years. Last year it went dead and I managed to fix it following youtube tutorials. But my fix wasnt the best, the problem returned a month later. This week, it went dead again. I again tried to fix it.

This time the original cable broke too close to the screen, it can't be fixed without tearing the screen...

                    by Chrissygizmo
Hi all, I’ve got a problem I hope someone can help me fixi.
I have a Panasonic TX-48CX350B tv , it powers up ok but the screen is blank, the backlights are working, there’s nothing else though, no picture or sound. I’m not sure what the fault is called whether it’s BLANK/ BLACK/ or WHITE SCREEN I’ve actually came across this before on a similar tv but just ended up scrapping it, I will upload pictures of the boards etc , if anyone could help me I would really appreciate it...
