    Pioneer Elite PRO-118 service manual

Strange request but anyone out there have a service manual for a Pioneer RPTV model PRO118. My in laws love this tv and aren't ready to give it up. Thought I would give it a try and repair it but need some schematics on it to further investigate.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

      don't give up!

I don't know if Mr. Bob (@mrbob84 on Badcaps) still frequents this board, but he's definitely the long-hailed CRT projection guru. If you can get in contact with him by way of personal message or email to make him aware of your thread, he may be able to contribute some troubleshooting advice. Between Mr. Bob and other advice from the forums, I've been able to get both of my Mitsubishis (a 48" WS-48311 and a 65" WS-A65) going strong again.

      Best of luck!

What is the problem with the tv? A lot of the pioneer rear projections had bad solder connections on the power supply board, mostly on the transformer pins and those metal feed-thru connections.
also convergence ic's going bad were an issue on most rear projection tv's
here is a link to the pro-119 it might be similar
I worked on a lot of rear projections but not that many pioneers, they were'nt that popular (more expensive?) than brands like Hitachi, Toshiba, RCA etc.

Re: Pioneer Elite PRO-118 service manual

Thank you for your response. I ordered convergence repair kit from tvrepairkits.com. I replaced both convergence IC's and tested all of the resistors near the convergence IC's. They were all within tolerance. None of them showed any signs of discoloration. I inspected the entire board with a magnifying glass and all of my work to make sure I didn't have any solder bridges. Found a few suspected cold solder joints and touched those up. Installed board and had the same result. I tested the supply voltage to the IC's. The board had printed next to the connector +24v and -24v. I read -17v and +22v. I had read through my research on pioneer rptv's that, as you had said, pioneer had issues with the power supply board. I removed the board and touched up many suspect solder joints especially the ones around all the high heat areas and around the transformers and flyback. I inspected that one as well with a magnifying glass and strong light. Found no other issues. Installed the board and no change. I have taken a picture on the tv powered on with this issue. That's the only one I have taken. The problem is my inlaws live about an hour away and am limited on my time with it. Would be nice if I had it at home. My plan is to take pictures of the bottom and top of both the convergence board and power supply board to put on here for the forum for the experts. I have limited knowledge and thought this would be a good opportunity to learn. Plan to update as soon as I am able to get over there. Thank you for the manual. I will download it now.

            Thanks again,
            Kevin

Re: Pioneer Elite PRO-118 service manual

I see a couple problems, Blue and Red convergence are out a mile, There is also what looks like bad capacitors in the power supply, thats whats causing the lines in the picture and I suspect also causing the low + & - 24 volts. (or the could also be low because of the convergence ic's loading them down) I would suspect the C141 & C136 (2200&3300uf/35v)
Is this what the picture looked like prior to you replacing the convergence ic's ?

Re: Pioneer Elite PRO-118 service manual

It hasn't changed at all from where I started. I will pull the caps out and test them and let you know what I find. I tried adjusting the convergence initially with the original remote but no matter how much I tried it wouldn't respond. That's what caused me to replace the convergence IC's. I guess it's a possibility I got a bad IC but being that it hasn't made any change at all leads me to believe it's not.

                  Thank you for your help,

Re: Pioneer Elite PRO-118 service manual

Are the convergence ic's/heat sync warm, hot, or cold, they should be running fairly warm, if they are cold then they are not working, I would check the .47 ohm (r2633,r2634,r2609,r2608) or check what voltage is on them, they basically act like fuses for the ic's +&- vcc. If the original ic's were bad they usually cause the resistors to open

Re: Pioneer Elite PRO-118 service manual

They were warm. One was a little warmer than the other. I will check the resistors again. I didn't Check the voltages at the resistors with the tv powered on. Will do that when I check the caps on the power supply. Thanks for the guidance. Hopefully will get over there this weekend and do some testing. Will let you know my results.

                      Thanks again,

Re: Pioneer Elite PRO-118 service manual

We'll, finally able to have a chance to tinker with the Pioneer. Want to take the time to thank R_J for your assistance. The layout was a little different on the pro118 than the Pro119 but I found one 3300uf 35v cap bad C136 and one resistor bad for the red convergence chip. Both you had recommended. All working fine. Very happy father-in-law! Thanks again!
