Sharp LC32DH57E Aquos TV Power Issue

    Hello Everyone,

I have been reading about how to diagnose and repair bad caps in an attempt to repair this television.

When I plug it in, and press the "power" button, the LED turns RED, indicating standby. I press it again, it goes dark, indicating OFF.

I have spoken with Sharp and they insist it goes RED for standby and on another press it should go GREEN, on state.

The diagnostic does not work (holding down input and volume), I've watched a guide.

None of the caps appear bloated, there is no obvious discharge from any of them.

Attached is a pic of the board, please any kind of guidance would be great. I have no experience with electronics but really want to learn - and I hate the idea of throwing this away!

Check connector between the two boards on back for bad solder joints.
I assume no responsibility for any stupid suggestions I might post.

      Hi,

      Thanks for the advice

I looked, no pictures, look totally fine, there is no obvious damage anywhere.

On rear of board around the solder points of that big capacitor there is a very small amount of some dark brown discolouration... might that indicate a fault?

I am talking less than 1mm of staining, extremely small.

You will need to take pictures of the boards and the whole back of the tv. You will also need to take voltage readings from power board connector to mainboard in this format

        Example:

        CN6201
Pin Number - Pin Label - Pin Voltage
        1 - Power_On - 2.76v
        2 - AC Det - 2.86v
        3 - STBY 3.3v - 3.36v
        4 - UNREG 15v - 16.60v
        5 - UNREG 15v - 16.60
        6 - AU-GND - 0v
        7 - AU-GND - 0v
        8 - REG 12v GND - 0v
        9 - REG 12v GND - 0v
        10 - REG 12v GND - 0v
        11 - REG 12v - 12.05v
        12 - REG 12v - 12.05v
        13 - REG 12v - 12.05v
I assume no responsibility for any stupid suggestions I might post.

I'll have to buy something to test the voltages, any suggestions for a cheap entry level tool?

Start with a decent Digital Multimeter. They are not too expensive.
