Sony kdl-46ex706

Hi folks,

i have an SONY KDL-46EX706 wich flashes intermittently, which means that the picture gets white for only a couple of ms and i can see the picture flashing/flickering.

the failure cant be reproduced it just comes and goes

Not matter what source
No matter how log the TV is running
Software is up to date
kock test is negative, also coolant spray

BAL TCON Panel??? any ideas??

Posting pictures of the back of your tv showing the boards with clear pictures may help you more with fixing your problem

well the tv flickers more and more often now, but when the tv internal menu is opended over the home button the tv does not flicker.....

any ideas?

Is it the picture on the screen or backlight that brighten up?

its the picture, backlight is steady

posting photo from service manual make no sense to check the reality of the sets condition, you need to take the cover back out. reseat all cable after cleaning them.. if didn't help, remove some load for the TV, while its on and display Chanel plug it off from wall sockt only,, remove the IR section socket connector then plug it again to wall socket and check.

cleaning the connectors and reseating them did not solve the problem

Have you checked to see if any of the power supply voltages glitch in time with the picture flashing? Do you have max - min on your DVM and if so that would be useful for carrying out the check.

nope Voltages are ok, got a PSU and have changed the PSU for testing purposes, same behavior.

also i saw that the OSD of the TV is not effected by the flickering....

means when the tv is flickering and i open any kind of menu from the tv the picture becomes steady again, wghen exiting the menu the tv is flickering again....

have changed the 2pcs 16V 100µf on the bal board now as their ESR was a bit to high, seems to work at the moment...

i guess i will change all the caps on the bal board later...

well back again....

not it has turned into a green screen, sinco today it started up with a total green screen, after pressing "home" button, picture was ok again.

but depending on the image contend it gets green again....

i guess it is the BAL board, dont ya?

anyone can tell me which source driver ic's this board uses:

Bal Board: A1763467B

ill give it a try changing them if possible.... as a new board costs around 300USD..

To bring this to an end, tv is working again, changing the BAL Board was the solution.
