Panasonic TX-P37X20B Main A board Interchangeable

Hi,

So... I have a faulty ‘A' board (THPN0829), which I cannot find a replacement for. So, other alternatives are as follows:

X20 (42inch) – Guess it would only be a case of changing the display size type in the service menu
C2 – Same part number. However, it is missing the side panel functionality and will require an additional wired power switch, which would probably be hard to find.
U20 – Not sure if there would be an option in the service menu to select 37 inch panel
G20 – Not sure if there would be an option in the service menu to select 37 inch panel
S20 - Not sure if there would be an option in the service menu to select 37 inch panel

They all appear to have the same ribbon cable connection ports.

Well the panel size in the service menu is only for analog input. If you insert the mainboard and its a full hd model then it will go full screen on hdmi.

The mainboards are probably all the same ,one might have a extra hdmi or as you said side panel options.

THPN0829? I think you you put this down wrong, it should Read TNPH0892 but that is the board number not a part number you need to match TXN/ barcode number, there is a 37"board on eBay Showing TXN/A1LDUE that could work in your set,I only have in stock a power board for this model at this moment Flocko

Don't think you can. get the service manuals and compare the EEPROM part numbers and swap the ones that are different. If you swapped all of these except the 48pin flach chip then it should end up being the original complete with hours etc stored.
C2 – Same part number. However, it is missing the side panel functionality and will require an additional wired power switch, which would probably be hard to find.

check the schematics but if you desolder the switch from bad board and solder into the board missing this it should work. On the C2 there should also be a jumper on the P board to change how these turn on to a soft start.

They all appear to have the same ribbon cable connection ports.

Forget these 3 as they are FHD. Appearances are deceptive as a closer examination will probably show the ribbon connectors are in a different position and of a different size. They have to be if you think about it. fHD more resolution, more lines means more data.

The TNPH0892 is from a 37C2 TXN/A1LDUE on eBay, just need to mod by adding the side buttons from your defective board? base board is the same, or just keep looking ,the correct one will show up in time.

If you mod you probably also need different firmware? Or will this be service mode option?

Thanks for all the responses. I guess the only option is the C2 board. I see that on the C2 service manual, the power switch is connected to the power board. So, I presume the jumper is to decide which switch option to use? Or is there a jumper on the main board to enable the power to be constantly 'On' when using the side switch power option.

I may just wait for an X20 to appear. I am a bit wary though, after the board I bought caused the demise of the SS and SC board. I don't want a repeat of that happening!

As a note to the demise of your SS and SC boards. that is normal for one to take out the other,most of this model that come though my workshop I find both boards need to be repaired or replaced, repairs to the SC being very involved with lots of SMD work.

Well, I have purchased the C2 board. Looks like P34 on the PSU board is left 'Open circuit' So, I might just put the switch there.
Flocko...I will be putting my old SS board on e-bay shortly if you are interested in re-building it to sell on?
I hate working on SMD and especially double sided PCBs! As a blast from the past I can remember how I hated working on the old GEC 2110, with their double sided PCBs! It would become a right mess. The only work I have only attempted to do was a modification on the SC board to improve black levels.

Sorry not much good to me as no set to test the board in after repair, I only sell what i can test and has to be in full working order . it will only be the IGBTs and the driver that need replacing on one of these SS TNPA5072 its the SC TNPA5062 that can be a problem to repair

Just an update. I only just got around to replacing the A board and is working fine.

I used the power switch from the old board and soldered to the new board.
