Any Tips on Repairing Edge Lit LED Strips?

I have a Samsung UN46ES6150F that has multiple LEDs blown. The LEDs are the vertical mounted edge types. There are only two strips, each with 60 LEDs, on either side of the panel (it is one of the thin panel TVs).

I have ordered the replacement LEDs from AliExpress, so I have about 3 weeks to come up with a decent rework proceedure for these LEDs. I have two soldering stations and a Weller heat gun, both of which I have used to remove LEDs from horizontal strips, but I can't think of an easy way to use either of these for the vertical mounted devices.

I was wondering if anyone had a successful proceedure that they used for these LEDs.

I am doubtful that you have ordered the correct LEDs for these strips? I think they are twin unit LEDs that are side mounted to the strip? But if they are the correct type please let us all know the seller on Allexpress. As for fitting first you must remove the LED strip from the heat sink board, then using hot air to the rear of the strip remove the LED,do not remove the old solder from the board, and use lots of flux fitting the replacement and make sure to fit them the correct way round. Good luck

I have the 55" version of this tv. Fully half of the 76 leds on the left hand strip are shorted and these strips are hard to come by.

it would be nice if you post photo of the Original strips, and show us the print label of the strips.

Paint stripping guns / hair dryer / heat gun does wonders.. heat the aluminum strip from the bottom and if requied, apply solder iron on top on the led terminations.

Replace with led of same forward voltage.

Alternatively, if you can't find a led with same forward voltage, a trick would be to use a zener diode with that voltage rating - or a led with lower forward voltage and a zener diode in series with the led.

I first saw this trick with the zener diodes on norcal715's youtube channel, here's a two part video where he fixes a backlight this way:

part 2 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8otPjsN8jD8 (removing led, installing zener diode in its place etc)
