What voltages should I be expecting on the VFG plate? I will go ahead and place the resistor back on there from another board and test again for voltages.
Ok, obviously misunderstood, thought you were sayingit was back in there.

Anyway I could rip the back of my U30, where do you want the figures from and what gnd point? The schematic suggests 147V +-3v for Vscn at TPSC1 not sure if that's chassis gnd or Vfg as the base.

I'd put that 2.2ohm in, jumper sc50, if it passes, confirm no shorts between buffer outputs and Vfg plates, then give it a go, but those resistances you quoted seem nothing like what I get.

      TW2005,
Yes so that was mis-comunication on my side, I did put one in from another board I had but took it back out because I needed it in the other board. So I actually don't have one on hand right now.
I will go through all my broken boards and try to find a 2.2 ohms 5w resistor, or possibly just buy one.
Do I have wiggle room on the ceramic resistor? Say I find a 5w 4.7ohm ceramic, would that be a big no no? I got a few of those laying around.

give it a shot, it'll either work or not. At the moment you have infinite resistance so won't harm being slightly higher.

If you're concerned you could parallel 2 of them and be 2.3ohms but wattage will be double

Shows 2.2kohms. I will have to buy something online and get back to you about it once I have it in shop.

Ok please check picture below and let me know if you think that would be safe to fire up without the buffers and recheck voltages on those pads.
                Thanks TW2005

should be, looks like a 2.2 ohm resistor

                    Re: Panasonic TH-P50U30A 7 blinks

Ok fired her up and 7 blink error code with buffers. I couldn't find the connector to plug into SC50. Ill have to do that test at a later time. About to close the shop. The SC seems to be operational now at least all components I replaced are still holding, there are not shorts on the vs line, so this has to be a buffer issue unless there is something else going on with the SC that I am not seeing.
I guess remind me really quick, one lead on the VFG plate/screw and then measure the connectors from SC to SS and SD.
I will also report back voltages to VFG plates with sc 50 shorted.

Quick test would be continuity between Vfg plates and slide along the output pins, shorts and it's bad.

Otherwise I have the pinouts and resistances I got already posted here.

A small alligator clip if half the nose is placed in SC50 and the other across the plastic casing usually works for clamping SC50

Ok so with the SC50 connector shorted, I get 219vdc for incoming VS voltage, and 124 volts on the VFG plates. sc41 pin 8 and 6 were 15 volts pin 2 was 119v
                          SC42 pin 1 and 2 were 15 v and pin 6 was 119vdc

I am about 99% sure that the SC is all good to go and that the issue is just in one of the buffers, but I don't get any shorts on the pins of the buffers excepts for pin 1 of sc41 but I assume that is normal since pin 1 has the 124 v going through it.

This is what I get with the SU41 in circuit

Pin 8 starts at 20 mega ohms goes down to .5M and then goes back up to 2.6m and goes down again. Just repeats from there. Did that test 3 times with exact same result.
Pin 6 started at 5m then went down to 1m then jumped to 12k
                          Pin 2 I got a solid 2.4k

                          SU41 out of circuit

                          pin 8 is 32m
                          pin 6 is O.L
                          pin 2 is 116k

                          SD 42 in circuit
1 3m and keeps going down untill you hit .2m then repeats
2.same they are shorted on VSC
                          6. 2.4k

                          SD 42 out of circuit

                          pin 1 26m
                          pin 2 ol
                          pin 6 110k

also is it ok for me to take one of these out of circuit and turn the set on with the other connected?
