    TC-P50GT50 won't turn on

I bought a brand new tc-p50gt50 from amazon a few years ago, and all of a sudden one day it just wouldn't turn on.

No clicking, no lights blinking, nothing when the power button is pressed. I had previously changed out the main board as my cable box fried the HDMI inputs. I used the correct model #, board #, etc...

Fast forward about a year and this happens. I found a great deal on a tested reputable seller on ebay for a main power board....switched that out, no difference, no power, no lights, clicking, etc

Could this be another main board problem?

Did you check the fuses on the power supply?

I did not (I guess I'm a idiot). Are they located on the power board?

Here's a closeup of what the board looks like

        Re: TC-P50GT50 won't turn on

Its the same power supply as in the VT50. My VT50 didn't want to turn on either , also "dead". I didn't have any led/fans spinning. I also thought it was the power supply and i bought a brand new one finding out that the main board was the problem.
My VT50 worked with a ST50 main board without problems , same layout.

So either the fuses in the power supply if you don't see a led or the main board is dead. You could have had a power issue?

In the service manual you need to search for the 5V standby. On my main board a small ic was dead cause of lightning. Will check what ic that was…

Here is the service manual! Search for STB5V and EV5V. , there you will see that the 5V comes from the powersupply into the mainboard and back to the powersupply and turn on the powersupply/panel.

Do you have 5V on Pin6 on the powersupply? Also 5v on upper right red square in the picture?

That's what I did originally for my 2010 50V20. Just kept picking up bargains with smashed screens. problem is i got the TV with 2500hrs and now got 14000 hrs and i still have 5 SC,SD,S sets , 2 main boards, a P , and 2 SS.

                    Re: TC-P50GT50 won't turn on

welp, HDMI inputs shit the bed on the "new" to me main board....this is the 4th main board, and I can confirm on 3 the HDMI outputs went, all 4 of them....the 3rd I'm not sure cause the TV would never turn on, but the board was bad.

The suffix numbers matched on the 1st 3, and it was different on this one, but it was running for a little, so I can't really narrow it down to the incorrect board suffix number.

My question is, does this sound like a mechanical failure on the board? Solder trace/fuse/cap/resistor that can be pinpointed and new parts put into it? Is there a way to check these more thoroughly than a visual inspection - I know bad solder joints/traces can be spotted and re-flowed fairly easily...I'm just sick of replacing boards

So this is the 4th board thats dead? I think you need to check the voltages....something is killing your mainboards.
So its either the voltages or some external device thats killing your mainboard.

                        Re: TC-P50GT50 won't turn on

the whole board isn't dead tho, just the HDMI inputs. I can still hook up my cable box with coax, video component cable, or the standard red, white, yellow cables. I can utilize all those connections on 3 of 4 boards. the 3rd board (one previous to the one currently installed) was completey dead - TV wouldn't even turn on.

The 3 boards that semi-function I can still watch internet content (youtube, amazon, etc.) or cable via the connections mentioned above, it's just the HDMI ports....so damn frustrating.

edit: this has happened with a variety of Xfinity equipment - all different boxes for each one. 1st one was on Comcast's equipment from 2013 (board 1) then I replaced that with a different model box (board 2), then X1 came along (board 3 - completely dead one) and now I have the 2nd generation X1 box...

no, i plugged the HDMI into position #1 after I mounted it on the wall (just moved into a new place) and i had everything all set up. Turned the TV on, waited for picture and it gave me the no input error message box

anyone know if theres a way to test the main board and diagnose the busted component?

my father is an electrical engineer, so he has access to a bunch of equipment regarding board diagnoses/repair, just want to see if its feasible to text/fix an old board rather than buying another replacement on ebay

                                bump

another quick question, are the GT and VT main board compatible? Having trouble locating a new gt50 main board, of any size, 50", 55", nor 60" and was wondering if I could expand my search to the VT boards without a problem?

It may work but , looks like the VT was 55" upwards though. I have done a board conversion once swapping eeproms across. You'd need manuals, part numbers and diagrams to be sure a different board is electrically the same.

what prices do you see because PTS do rebuilds.

right now on eBay theres only one main board for all the GT50 models, and its like $250...I'll look into the rebuild service. thanks

Re: Repaired main board - steps to prevent recurrence?

so I had my main board repaired by PTS electronics - super fast btw...before I pop that in, I wanted to check if anyone knows any of the other boards in the TV that could be causing the main board HDMI inputs to blow?

I'm at a different apartment now - I think the wiring is better, and there's an amplifier installed on the coax in from the street with a ground ( I don't know if my previous coax was grounded). Could it have been just shitty luck with multiple lightning storms that caused it to blow every time and having an ungrounded coax?

I was thinking about picking one of these up to prevent another potential HDMI issue with the repaired board:

Is there anything else I can do to make sure it's not exposed to surges from lightning?
