Most of my work is component repairs for the trade, and also do repair work for forum members.and as for throwing boards at things you have me all wrong. I have made a good living over the last 65 years in electronics, and have always done what it takes to turn around a good job at a fair price. Let me rephrase this then, you stated that replacing the Led lamps on the strips is a bodge how exactly ? Yes I might be starting out and only 16 years old but I have seen grown men who own genuine businesses preform bodge jobs which I cringe at still to this day due to shoddy soldering etc, my solder work and level of repairs is very advanced (due to autism) even my engineering teacher said that my soldering looks factory and my level of repair is very good for someone my age. This time answer the question.

Does this look bodged to you as well ? Also I know the optic and reflector isnt in place but heres an example of an Led that I recently replaced on a Toshiba Led tv.

Is it a new LED? No, has it come off another board? Yes, has the LED been heated three times ? Yes, is all this heat good for the LED ? No, A new strip is a new strip not a s/hand one, you can say what you like about how good you are with a hot air gun , you can not tell me its as good a job as a new replacement strip and one that apart from your own use in your own set, not a customers set you have been given for repair and are being paid for. Not end of mate ! How are you sure the strips you buy are new ? Thanks for the compliment on the soldering as well. I just think that you are getting abrasive because you made a fool of your self saying its a bodge job when actually its just as reliable as your method. I can see you are set in your ways. Any thing else to say ?

i have to agree with ReeceyBurger123 on this one. Led full strips are very hard to come buy and expensive. I have repaired loads of less strips and never had any back but never done a edge lit. At the end of the day we all here to learn from each other nobody is a expert on everything I'm sure your both excellent repair men

i have to agree with ReeceyBurger123 on this one. Led full strips are very hard to come buy and expensive. I have repaired loads of less strips and never had any back but never done a edge lit. At the end of the day we all here to learn from each other nobody is a expert on everything I'm sure your both excellent repair men

Very true the best economical was is to repair the original strips means you make more profit and you dont have to stress about find a new set of leds. Flocko just seems to want to argue to fact for what reason im not sure.

i have repaired an edge lit hitachi smart tv with built in wi-fi
removed strip off of heat sink wrapped the rest of the strip in tin foil except point where faulty led was then heated it up with a lighter and replaced led without any problem cleaned the black soot off of the back and jobs a goodn..... sold and still running fine
didnt know there were informational videoes about them at the time lol !

You seem to think that I want to argue with you, far from it.I am saying if that is the way you repair them and you are happy to charge for doing it that way fine, but I would not be, there is a saying that you are only as good as your last job. meaning if that job goes bad that is the one that you will be remembered for. It not all about profit

LED's can go at anytime if theyre brand new or secondhand so whats the difference ??
chances are it will be another strip that fails so its a case of sods law
and you will still get a bad name so unless you state i replaced/repaired strip 3 out 5 of your repair reciept and if it goes wrong again prove it was another strip which i doubt people do

Ok, so why would you not be happy, thats what I dont understand you seem to avoid my question. Why do you feel component level repairs such as replacing leds is a bodge job ?

I have deep pride in all my repairs no matter if I have to replace some caps or leds. On a ratio of tvs I have previously repaired that I get back fault again with the same fault is 4:296 I have had one tv back with the same fault and 21 or so of those are ones I have replaced leds on and 40-50 or so are tab bonds.

What is the main cause of SMD LEDs in back lights failing in the first place? = heat, what are you doing to repair this problem? heat cycling a donor LED to remove it,but that LED has already been though one heat cycle when it was fitted in first place, then you are going heat cycle it again to fit it where you remove the fault one, so the little SMD LED has now been though three heat cycles.Take a look and see the amount of heat and time that is recommended to use fitting SMD LEDs. If you are happy with this fine, just do your own thing

Heat is a factor, normally dye bond and whisker failures are the main fault with leds, yes the build to up failures can be due to heat but normally the leds just cant cope with the current when they are in series like in tvs.

If you also get a tv with a failed led which you cant find strips for and need it repairing you know what to do.

I have darkening in the lower left corner of my lg 60ls. I was wondering if the edge lights can be accessed by removing the back or if it has to be turned over and the front removed?
