Edge lit led repair

Has anyone repaired a edge lit ed strip as mine comes on perfect then a small portion at the top go out then all out. There quite fiddly to fit a new led onto but just wondered if anyone has had success in doing so...

with most edge lite sets you will need to replace the LED board as you will do more damage trying to replace a single LED. lots of these for sale on ebay just take the part number that is stamped into the board and do a search

What do you mean board the Led driver or the strip ?

Edge lite sets have an alloy board that has the LEDs fitted to, If you try to remove the strip you will damage it , it is unlike the LED strips That are used in normal multi strip Tvs, but i thought you would have been aware of that ?

the strip can be removed from most I've seen. All the ones I've seen have small screws to keep it place

Posting pictures of the back of your tv showing the boards with clear pictures may help you more with fixing your problem

What the hell are you on about ? I was on about replacing the leds direct check the video out that I linked ! It is possible to replace them I guess you need to get watching some videos on how to repair these strips before trying to contradict someone.

Also the strip is only stuck down to the aluminum shield with strong thermal gum its easily removable with hot air and a pry tool. I have done it when I didnt know how to replace Leds directly.

yes that is how the board comes out(the strip can be removed from most I've seen. All the ones I've seen have small screws to keep it place) but the strip that is fitted to board has very fine traces that carry four or five circuits along and under the LEDs that are fitted end to end . for this reason they are not a repair option but can be replaced with a new LED board

That is exactly it, they can be of use and be informative, but would you look up open heart surgery, then go and try it on your Mum? if someone posts on here with a problem, if they had the skill to solve it, they would not be here in the first place. showing them how you do it on video does not lift there skill level sorry Flocko

I have found no mater what type of repair you do to replace one LED in a chain you will be back again to replace the rest one by one , as if one is short/open it will leave the rest weak .would not be a repair that I would do for a customer if you want to keep them happy. Just like tab bond repairs Ok if its your own set but a customer or for resale forget it

I have preformed about 12 led backlight repairs on customers tv and at least 9 others that I have sold not a single one come back. It wont damage the chain either it will just cause the protection circuit to engage or non to light at all.

Tab bonds I have also preformed on several tvs, some have been fine for over a year. So I still do not see your point what happens if you preform a Psu repair then the Lcd fails 1 month after ?? You cant predict that same as when an Led is next going to fail.

why would you go to all the time and trouble of striping a set to its bare bones to bodge it. when it takes the same time to do it the right way and replace the strip. And not something I would be on here telling the world about or thinking its good thing. If you are taking money for a job or set do it right.Anyway this has run a bit of post now so let call it done Flocko

How is it bodging it exactly ? You make no logical sense, I see you are one of these that just throws boards and parts at tvs aren't you. I do component level repairs which from what I have seen on here and for my self are more reliable.

So lets say you replace an Led strip then whats to say another wont fail a few weeks after which can happen or the ones you buy are from second hand smashed tvs which have had heavy use then what, long term reliability out the window. Also even at compnent level I still get tvs done normally with in the week.
