GE TC-34P1-R (Hitachi NP6C chassis) bad screen supply oil capacitor

Someone gave me a GE TC-34P1-R TV set with the symptom "no picture". When I turned it on, I got a station with a bit of "blue static" and then the set shut down, with a "ticking" sound from the power supply, which suggested there was an overload.

Opening the set revealed that the +800V screen supply, derived from a diode connected to the collector of the horizontal output transistor, had a faulty 0.068uF 1000V oil capacitor which has overheated and bulged.

Replacing this capacitor with a polyester unit (two 0.22uF 630V units in series), along with two other oil capacitors (one after an inductor after the mains rectifier, and one used as an AC filter (yellow ring), even though they were still good.
There were two 4.7uF 315V electrolytics on the +200V CRT bias supply; they were slightly leaking. They were also replaced with one 22uF 350V unit.

When the set was turned on with a series lamp limiter, there was a picture (slightly shrunken because of the lower input voltage) with no other serious problems. The set was then plugged straight into the wall and there was a fairly good picture, which needed focusing.

Because this set was a live chassis , I plugged it into an isolating transformer and adjusted the focus with a mirror in front of the set.

My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

looks like a late 70's hitachi to me.
if its like the ones i remember it will play forever.
had 30 of those that were trashed by lightning given to me.
i still have a few of the crt's left.
most went into arcade games which are still looking good 15 years later of 24/7/365 use.
a funny note is that some hitachi sets here were ge chassis.
they even had the schematic in a box on the back .good thing too as you needed it!

Macbook 2017 with touchbar (A1706) won't turn on after removing the screen
      by Ryan.man
Hello everybody! Posting this in hopes somebody has some expertise that leads to a clear path of troubleshooting that saves me a lot of time!

My macbook has the flex cable problem, the one that prevents the screen turning on. Ive been dealing with this for the last 3 years. Last year it went dead and I managed to fix it following youtube tutorials. But my fix wasnt the best, the problem returned a month later. This week, it went dead again. I again tried to fix it.

This time the original cable broke too close to the screen, it can't be fixed without tearing the screen...

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
      by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
      by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

      Assuming...

Macbook Air M2 A2681 Kernel panics after screen replacement
      by reformatt
Just had a customer bring in a M2 MBA A2681 that had had a screen replacement in April at another repairer. Since then, she has been getting intermittent kernel panics. It's an aftermarket screen, and of course it fails in diagnostics as the calibration hasn't been done. The error in the panic log is "No device added after powering on the rails".

It seems the original repairer has swapped the board and the screen to other MAC's, and said that it isn't a screen issue. From what I understand, by doing a quick search on Google, this is in fact a screen issue. The panic relates...

Acer K272HUL blue power light but black screen, power supply is ok
      by burntonnerings
Have had two Acer K272HUL monitors die with the same symptoms:

      - Blue power light is illuminated while the monitor is plugged in
      - Black screen (no splash screen, etc.)
      - Power button doesn't do anything

Opened it up and checked for bad caps and components, evidence of burns, etc. - everything looks fine.

      Power supply voltages are fine.

There are some signal lines on the power supply harness that goes from the power supply to the logic board, not sure what these should be at.

      Anyone have any ideas?...
