Newbie here and as Green as the grass so go easy on me please
Basically, as the title suggests my parents LG Plasma started behaving strangely whilst watching it and has since shown the typical symptoms that so many people write about.
Without the aerial plugged in and the TV just plugged into the mains it goes through the usual on/off routine. However, unlike the situation of a blank screen or no picture (even with an aerial connected), ours displays a horizontal and pixelated White fuzzy band at the bottom 3rd of the screen, then shuts off.
A very good friend of mine has advised me to purchase this kit:

He's also offered to do the repairs as I have no soldering skills and all for a few beers. I have been warned though that this may not solve the issue and was told something about the Y-SUS being a potential culprit too and the reason for the white banding?
Is that the TV attempting to fire up? I'm not sure but was hoping someone could confirm if any of the above is correct.
Oh, before I get asked, yes I do realise that you need to do multimeter tests etc but said friend believes that just simply changing the parts over is quicker than fault finding and I'm much happier spending little money that way rather than buying a whole new power board if it is just the main board.
The decision has been made that if this kit does not fix the problem, then we'll cut our losses and invest in a new TV.
Any opinions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
