    Goodmans GTV42P5DVBT

Ahh today I repaired this 42" Goodmans Plasma set from around 2003 failed ipm module on the zsus usual fault on these older Plasmas. However when I got this set observing the sticker on the back I noticed "made in Turkey" this is a Vestel set nothing Goodmans about this. Luckily Vestel were only left to make the external chassis of the tv and the mainboard which is a complete mess of wires but everything els (panel, sustain boards, tcon and psu) is made by lg and Sanken as Vestel didnt have a PDP facility so they got lg to make the screens which come with the sustain boards ect.
Plugging the set in I hear the ysus prime the panel then proceed to make its buzzing noise however using my sense of hearing moving over to the zsus noticed that it was completely silent, no noise nothing. Checked the vs in fuse and it is open/blown. Started probing around non of the diodes or igbts were shorted, then checking the fuse it goes straight to the vs input on the ipm module so knew that the ipm was blown replaced about 20 of them already very common and almost always on the zsus in my experience ?
After de-soldering the heatsink which was easy enough with my zd915 and hot air gun. Ipm was some cheap 42" power chip crap that had lots of charcoal around it so defiantly dead wasn't going to pay the £20 for a new chip found another zsus that was almost identical but was a 13C version the zsus I needed was a 13D but the pins were the same so thought mares well try it. The ipm was the exact same swapped it over added new thermal paste, re-soldered installed back into the tv and boom picture although kind of crappy lots of discharge so I lowered all the voltages on ysus and power supply by 1 whole volt and panel is now fine, cleaned all the dust out and closed up the case.
Funny thing is that this isnt hd but has freeview rarely see this on standard definition tvs however I like the picture quality nice colour and contrast especially for being based off a crappy Vestel mobo also very impressed with the speakers 12w into 8ohms and wow those have some bass for cheap speakers wander if Goodmans made them lol.
Another mystery solved and another tv saved and out of the trash hopefully get some more years out of it only paid £10 for it and selling for £70 as its nicely built well the lg part is. Thanks for reading note there isnt many photos apart from the sticker on the back.
