constant on/off and blinking red light of VT25 Panasonic Plasma

    Hey guys,
I was about to throw my VT25 plasma out after it wouldnt start up and went t.v. shopping and was disappointed that nothing has really improved that much from a picture quality perspective.

This made me motivated more than ever to somehow come up with a fix for the t.v. which I love still.

So here's a quick breakdown of the problem. When I plug in the t.v. and turn it on, you can hear a click and the t.v. turns on a connects to the source but then immediately turns off and cycles on and off continuously until you pull the plug. I have tried this several times and the results are always the same.

SOmetimes though, the unit will stay on and I can watch t.v., but as soon as i try to use a universal remote to change the volume or change the channel via the cable box, the unit will start cycling on and off. I tried to ascertain if there were a certain about of red blinks to diagnose the issue myself, but like i said, it's a continuous cycling process.

Any thoughts on what the problem may be or which board may be the problem? I had a t.v. tech look at real quick and he said it would cost me $500 to send the "main" board back to japan for repair, but it sounded a bit out there. I took a look at ebay for common boards and there does seem to be some supply so i am encouraged that this might be fixable without the need to refurbish the board in japan.

I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts or opinions on how I can fix this t.v. THanks all in advance!

It sounds like a mainboard problem but 1 thing. The TV tech is not going to send the mainboard to Japan! What he is trying to say is "Im ripping you off for 450$ because the board will cost me 50$".

My guess its the mainboard. If you open the back cover and search for the board number , you can then search for it on Ebay! Will look like "TNPH0784".

Thanks Moreno. It did seem a bit odd and my b.s. detector was going off in my head. I would have him much rather say local parts + mark up plus time and profit vs some nonsense.

I'll give that a shot. Too bad these boards are so scarce and the cad dollar is so low. It'll cost me 185 cad just for the main board. Hopefully this does the trick! I'll let you know how i make out.

Indeed , tw2005 is right! You need to double check the mainboard model when you buy a new one. ( second hand ).
Could you post some pictures of the set? Maybe we can help search for the correct board.

            shoot.
i already purchased the board from an ebay vendor. What can happen if you get the wrong revision board number?

I checked the source t.v. that it came from, and it was from a VT20 plasma which from what i know is almost identical to the one i currently own.

            THoughts on this?

              Hey guys,
I installed the board yesterday and the t.v. is back up and running. Thanks all! I just saved $2000 on not having to buy a new T.V. and still get to enjoy the best picture quality under $2k for the next little while. I hope by the time my t.v. finally goes, OLED will have come down in price.
