    Toshiba 40FT2U1 Strange Screen Fault.

    Hey friends of the BCF!

Been awhile since I have posted a new panel to tinker with as its been slow and I have been busy with other stuff.

I got this Toshi for 5 bucks, I normally pass on these newer Toshiba panels as they are total crap now but this one kind of made me scratch my head and I had nothing on my plate so I took it in.

The top half of the screen is flawless, the bottom half is well as you can see in the photo below is distorted, you can see problem when the screen is black due to no signal.

The T-con is located at the top of the panel so I am not sure if this is tab bond, mainboard or T-con or ????, Almost like a bad Ydrive buffer on a plasma

Anyone seen anything like this before, I have not seen a tab bond failure like this.

Horrible photo, like I was saying, the top part of the screen looks perfectly fine.

I am pretty sure it is, I am going to dive into it tonight and see. I have seen several tab bond failures but never anything like this.

The biggest thing with failed IC's is the slow, ghosting refresh rate that happens, this the affected part of the screen keeps right up with the top part of the screen.

This is what happens when I get bored and nothing new has come though, I do need to finish the Panny 42" 700u just waiting on parts.

I don't think Vestel exported TVs to the USA, but I don't think this is a Toshiba inside, it's probably some OEM.

I'm going panel, Samsung panel by the looks of things plus SJ just happened to have this note against the TCON for this.

IMPORTANT: Horizontal lines on the screen are virtually NEVER caused by a bad T-con board. Horizontal lines indicate a defective LCD panel (screen)

maybe this is how this one dies.

Yeah I just realised I looked at the stand and sort of recognised the model number but it is actually a Toshiba but uses a Samsung panel.

                        PDP4LIFE!

Yup it was panel, I disconnected the right TFT ribbon from the T-con and the screen was whole on the left side.

Disconnected the left side and the screen was all kinds of messed up.

                        Parts!

There was NOTHING Toshiba inside, it was all OEM no name stuff.

Sadly PDP is no longer with us. Let's hope OLED works out better, although I don't have much hope

                            by Ryan.man
Hello everybody! Posting this in hopes somebody has some expertise that leads to a clear path of troubleshooting that saves me a lot of time!

My macbook has the flex cable problem, the one that prevents the screen turning on. Ive been dealing with this for the last 3 years. Last year it went dead and I managed to fix it following youtube tutorials. But my fix wasnt the best, the problem returned a month later. This week, it went dead again. I again tried to fix it.

This time the original cable broke too close to the screen, it can't be fixed without tearing the screen...
