successful CMO panel swap JVC to Samsung

hey all just wanted to let everyone know that I just successfully swapped a panel into a Samsung LN46B530.

I found this Samsung LCD TV on Craigslist for 50 bucks with a cracked screen knowing I was taking a gamble but I figured what do I have to lose. I had this good brand new panel sitting around the house for a while that was for a JVC LT-46AM73. it seems like it's only 46 inch JVC LCD ever made. Well anyways the panel is a 60 Hertz 1080p panel and the Samsung used a 1080 P 60 Hertz panel also. Knowing that I'll never find a JVC TV with a cracked screen because they seem to be super rare I took the panel out of the frame and retrofitted it into the Samsung frame. They both use different t-con board and I couldn't just swap the tcon over to the new panel I had to use the JVC tcon. it was a trick making the ribbons fit I had to do it some cutting on the plastic shell but as soon as I got everything to fit and fit the ribbons in I had to get crafty to make the t-con board fit on the back of the Samsung metal frame after I did that I powered it up and it works great.

Note: when I say ribbons I'm talking about the tab bond ribbons. The plastic black shell had to be modified because there were plastic risers used where I needed the casing flat so the tab ICs could sit flush on the frame. Also I had to use the heat dissipation pads to fit the tabs to the metal original Samsung frame as the JVC frame didn't use this method. The Samsung panel had like15 or so tab ribbons where the JVC panel uses 6.

on a side note I should add that the original Samsung panel was a CMO using side tabs this JVC panel which is also a CMO does not have side tabs however the LVDS cable fit perfectly and I did some research between the two panels and found out that the voltage is seem the same so just wanted to add that this swap worked. I'm still surprised myself.

Here's some pics if the finished Tv. Looks good IMHO. Wonder why the Samsung panel was over engineered when the simple JVC panel seems to work fine?

The side tabs are the gate drivers. Modern panels integrate these into the glass ("gate in panel ") which is probably the difference and why you can't use a different T-con.

Samsung QN75Q6FNA backlight no display, red LED blink 2x, fault in panel

        • Prior owner tried a replacement main board. No difference.
        • Samsung 2x red blinking standby LED = panel fault
        • Jumpered FB_TRDY_1 (pin 1 CN1300 left. main tcon->left side buffer boards) and FB_TRDY_3 (pin 95 CN1301 right. main tcon->right side buffer boards) This allows testing individual T-Con (on main board) connection to panel on this Samsung. Found fault on left side (viewing from rear of TV)
        • Each side has 2 buffer boards, disconnected left side flex between 2 buffer boards. Fault is on the left most board.

Reattaching new edge to edge LCD panel to tv frame - Hisense 55a6g and others
        by mecha1166
Some new tvs have an LCD screen attached to the outside of the frame with foam tape. These are "edge to edge" as they are called. I am trying to figure out how to reattach an LCD panel back up to the frame. The manufacturer used 3/16 inch foam tape along the top and rh/lh edges. I used a razor blade to separate the panel from the metal frame. The metal frame that the panel is taped to is 1/4 inch wide along the 2 sides and top. I completely removed the residue from the metal frame. There is some residue on the panel itself along the 3 edges, I removed almost all of it using alcohol and...

SAMSUNG UN50TU8000F rebooting, backlight ok. No 12v to panel boards.
        by triplefour
TV flashes backlight then reboots over and over. no image. Client said it used to have image for a bit before rebooting. Got worse over time.

        tcon is built into mainboard.
Only one cable goes to panel boards.
there is a cable from one panel board to the other that links them.
cost cutting measure that results in us having harder time to diagnose.
removing the link to the second panel board allows TV to stay on with stable backlight but no image.
used cut off tape method to mask 1 maybe 2 pins on the side of the cable that goes to that second panel board....

Samsung UN50TU8000 - Dead Panel Forensic Questions
        by KYBOSH
I came across a 50inch TU8000 that wouldnt start up properly (blinking stand-by light, backlights would cycle on and off).

When i opened it up and removed the power to the mainboard the backlights powered up and everything looked uniform.
When reconnected the mainboard but disconnected the flex cable to the panel i heard the TV startup with the intro sound.

Later I checked for shorts on the panel PCB boards but could not find anything.
When I took a look with the FLIR i noticed the 2 resistors...
