Samsung HL56A650 DLP Chip - Worth Replacing?

I picked up a Samsung HL56A650 DLP TV for free off Craigslist today.
The seller said it looked "snowy".

Brought it home and, sure enough, there are stuck white pixels all over,
but it otherwise looks like it works fine
(I was able to play Netflix through it no problem).

Doing a bit of research, it looks like the DLP chip is bad.
The downside is that the DLP chip is like $180+ USD. Ouch.

So, as this is a TV from 2008, but is 1080p and seems decent,
do y'all think it would be worthwhile to invest $200-ish into fixing it?

One thing that puts me off it a little bit
is that DLP has that aspect that makes it flash a rainbow of color
if you dart your eyes quickly left and right.

I would not bother. Even if you replace the DLP chip ok, all the other boards generally are not available except maybe a power supply.

yep, its crazy, only 7 years old but already a dinosaur.

It's been my experience that DLPs are like Fixer-Upper Houses...

A money pit that just needs a "few dollars more" to be "done"..

they sell some of those parts for what seems like too much money on ebay, don't know if theyr selling them or not tho.

I just looked on Ebay after getting a nice DLP in.. $180 is about the cheapest going rate I have seen..

I kick myself as I have probably thrown out a half dozen DLPs this month. I always scavenge the lamps. Never thought to scavenge the DLP chip..

Do you guys think there's any value in it,
or should I just put it back up to give away?

I'd love to sell it for $30-$40
to recoup the loss from the plasma TV that I was misled on.

could sell color wheel, dmd board, power supply, etc., a bit of a hassle, but you might could get over a hundred without much trouble, ebay has a vast audience.
