Oled tv bad image burn & retention 😒

Well I was in currys today looking at various items, of course I went over to the tv section to see what junk they were selling lots of cheap samsungs and some lg oled tvs, never seen a oled tv before and the first thing that caught my eye was that the menu logo was either burned into or retained deeply to the screen. This is scary and misleading I feel because all the reviews strongly state that this new tech doesnt suffer from burn in as its not phostpher based but is that true but apart from that the picture looked bloody good. I took a photo excuse the poor quality as I didnt want to look suspicious in the shop, but can the new oled burn this fast ?

No one says OLED doesn't burn in. Well, if they do, they're idiots. It's an emissive screen so it will burn.

If you just watch normal TV it will be ok. It's people who use them as desktop monitors or on a single news channel who need to watch out.

wonder if you can leave it on just a snowy screen like they do plasmas, to fix m, or is that just for plasmas?

I know it was possible shame really as the picture was great as you said very good contrast and colours.

No... I don't think this will work unfortunately. That cures temporary IR on plasmas, but not permanent burn in. OLEDs don't get temporary IR (or it's very short if they do - minutes at most)

I stayed for around a hour and noticed when I walked past several times that image was still being retained.

Lcd uses colour filter, Plasma and Crt use Phosphor. Oled uses tiny little Leds printed onto the display glass.

If the Leds have to display for a long time, the material gets hot causing the light emitted I believe to be darker or brighter one section.

I haven't study the OLED TV so is is glass they are embedded or is it a plastic? When you talk about the material, are you talking about the glass or plastic they are embedded in or is it the actual junction of the OLED?

For oleds the substrate can be a glass or plastic or something else (think flex screens) that's because the oleds are made from an organic material which is able to be made in flat strips as oppose to regular LEDs. From what I understand that is.

Thanks Reecey. That is interesting that the designers would make the oled out of material that can not stand to be constantly on. Well I guess there are down sides to everything.
