In this country, a lot of warranty works are done by third-party Co's employed by the large retail outlets who no longer have their own (Or never had) service-departments...

The set makers have quite limited service departments these days, relying on these third-party organisations, as 'appointed service centres'

Pick up a Yellow Pages and give companies under "TV Repair" a call, asking if they have any opportunities?

You would have to search 'em out--maybe contact the likes of LG and Samsung, and the big chain stores selling electronics gear--see who they use in your city, and send 'em your CV and your electronics qualifications.

I doubt they would be interested if you dont have any formal qualifications these days, as there's so many college leavers with degrees etc fighting for jobs....

Just because you are capable of repairing--And probably Much Better at it--than some ex college kid, doesn't mean they'll employ you.

These third-party Co's are generally quite large affairs where paper qualifications are really mandatory.

I remember working with a very highly qualified guy once--He was Utterly Useless at any form of repairs. He only lasted 3 weeks before he was sacked--He couldnt even solder properly, but ON PAPER he was a genius!

The days of yesteryear, where there were TV Shops doing repairs in practically every street have long gone. In those days, you literally could walk in off the street and get a job!--I know, I did exactly that!

I know lg has their own repair guys. They are hireing right now in my area. But only thing is they don't have just dedicated tv people they are trained and do tv's and appliances like washers and dryers and refridgerators too.

if your fully qualified, just print you up some creds., you might have to lie a little, but most people do fudge their resumes.

Fudging, aka lying, on a resume = bad idea. You either have the skills or you don't. If you don't have the skills, challenge yourself to acquire them. Be truthful to yourself. Steps off soapbox...

Lying on your resume... Be careful. If you get found out, you can be subject to dismissal. And worse, you could have a gap in your employment that you have to explain away - your old employer won't give you a good reference...

Notice I said fully qualified, just like a guy whos been doing auto mechanics for 30 years, knows more than a recent grad of the school of get m out the door with a certificate, as long as they pay major tuition for the course.

bottom line is, if this guy is qualified and knows his business, anyone who hires him, will be glad they did, just because someone has a certificate, doesn't necessarily mean they're qualified, most employers test their potential hires, so if he's not qualified, he's not getting the job anyway.

As mentioned in the previous posts, large TV companies that do not have their own service departments will subcontract their warranty work out to 3rd party service companies. These companies can be large facilities that repair many different kinds of electronic devices to the small local "Mom and Pop" TV repair shop. Okay, so how do you find a job with one of these guys? Well, it took me a few minutes to locate some warranty repair shops. What did I do? The answer is our friend "GOOGLE". Say I had a Samsung that needed repair. On Google, I typed in "Samsung repair center". The first listing was Samsung's repair center locator. There were four things required on Samsung's site: device type/product type/model number/zip code. From the pull down menus I selected TV/Plasma, etc, etc. Three facilities were displayed for my area along with their addresses and phones #'s. One was a local TV repair shop. And I'm sure these companies probably do warranty work for other companies as well. Call them up to see if they're hiring, or go down and speak to them in person and fill out a job app. Getting the idea? You can perform the same search for other TV companies as well. Good Luck!

We do a bit of insurance claims. Warranty is tricky if you are not a authorized service center for any particular brand. That usually cost more than its worth.

Why do you want to do warranty repair for the TV brand companies? You could email John Dolak VP at Sony USA and ask how you would go about what you are trying to do. They claim they answer all their emails, just takes some time. I can confirm they will reply. They are concern with correcting problems and correctly diagnosing problems. By the time you get to an Authorized Dealer their policies can be very different from the manufacturers. A local TV Tech I know works for himself and will not work on tv's 40" and under because the cost of a new TV is to so low that people do not want to pay for repairs.
