    Samsung LE40M86BDX Clicking

    Hello all, again!

I've found myself my next project, I thought I'd diagnosed and fixed it myself but apparently not.

As in the title the TV clicks repeatedly in what seems to be a never ending loop. My research told me that particular set had a manufacturing defect where the 10v caps were simply not good enough for the job and would require either 16 volt or 25 volt ones in place of them.

Someone else had done the change at some point in the TVs life time and by the look of the soldering work it wasn't a novice, however most of these caps had failed again and I replaced them but that didn't resolve the issue.

I was lead to believe that when those caps fail, they can also take out the EEPROM chip with it. I had a look around Google and found that shorting it for 2 seconds could possibly fix it but it was considered a bodge job so I replaced the EEPROM chip completely with one I found on eBay

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2709208737...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

After some careful soldering and feeling quite proud of the job I did it still doesn't work, still just clicks away.

Has anyone else had this or heard of anything else that may cause this with these sets?

I could provide pics but I wouldn't know which you'd want to see apart from some perfectly looking caps and a recently replaced EEPROM chip.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Did you use the correct type capacitors for switching power supply?

I believe so, the one's that were in were 25v and 1000 microfarad so I just replaced with equal values.

I really thought the EEPROM would have solved it, I was so disappointed when it didn't.

Edit: I made sure they were 105 degree caps too

Correct type, so not just 105C but they have to be low ESR/impedance and ideally from a reliable manufacturer

Oh, I bought them from Maplin.

          http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/1000f-25v-...apacitor-dt70m

I can find the brand out tomorrow if you need to know that, just let me know.

It does not indicate that they are LOW ESR/LOW IMPEDANCE TYPE.

                Try powering it on
from the tv keep the power button in the middle pressed down and see if it powers on..

                Worth a shot.

I've ordered from that eBay seller before. So what difference would the caps that are not LOW ESR/LOW IMPEDANCE make? Just so I know for future reference and I enjoy learning new things

i think maplin capacitors are just general purpose ones ive had issues before i joined this site when using maplin capacitors they would even not work or last a very short time in power supplies since using panasonics ive never really had a issue but too be honest i do usually recap the whole power supply as the capacitors from cpc are that cheap imo i might as well do it budm or tom or another may chime in and explaine the diffrence between the LOW ESR/LOW IMPEDANCE capacitors as im still learning myself. for now maybe with a hair dryer heat the whole powersupply up for about 3 minutes and tre to turn the set on some times heating a power supply will make it work tempory.

I've read about heating up the caps but if they're not faulty and just the wrong type, then that wouldn't work.

There is a smaller cap that I've not changed yet, I'll get the hot air station on it in the morning and see what happens, it looks physically fine but looking fine doesn't mean it is.

I considered just changing the board but I'm not sure which board is at fault yet and I guess I don't learn anything by doing that anyway.

are you testing the caps with a esr meter?

I don't have an ESR meter just yet unfortunately, the ones I replaced were bulging at the top except for one, which I replaced anyway.

They dont have too be bulging to be bad ive learnt that the hard way if the esr is bad heating them sometimes gets them working tempory so even if they do look new and fine they can be low uf or wrong esr etc. Its worth heating up with a hair dryer for a good few minutes to try to rule bad capacitor/soldering etc imo.

I know for sure that the PANASONIC FM/FC/FR (from digikey) are low ESR type which are what I use for all my repair works.

I'll get them ordered then, it says they're FR-Series in the list.

I was reading the information you posted yesterday, I need to read more but from what I gathered yesterday it's all about reducing noise generated from DC?
