    PN51D450A2D Power Question

    I have one of these tv's and I was wondering if it's a Samsung thing. I have a blown Y buffer. I removed it and when I turn the tv on I get 203v like I'm supposed to but it drops off. As soon as I remove the ribbon cable to the Y-Main from the control board, the board stays at 203v. I tried swapping the Y-Main with another one and it does the same thing. Does Samsung have a protection that turns the power off if all the boards are not connected? Or do I have 2 faulty Y-Mains? I have spare boards for the whole tv but the Y-Buffer.

    What numbers on the bufferboard? I think I have a set here....not 100% positive,but have a few pn51's here...

      Yes, samsung does have such a protect circuit. It can be a pain in the arse! You should check between SVC_OUTH and SVC_OUTL for Vsch voltage - approx 130 to 150V. If buffer not shorted and this missing suspect ymain.

      Also note that these newer plasma panels will damage the buffer board if the panel is cracked. That means that if the seller did not thoroughly test the board it can be bad. Also check your TV for micro fractures around the edge of the panel.

        Heya,

        I know the buffer board is bad. Getting shorts on 2 chips. There is a small crack on the screen but they had been watching it for 6 months with it. I wonder if I should bother ordering a new buffer board or should I just junk it.

          "A small crack on the screen" and "Watching fine for 6 months" does not sound right. How much do you believe the seller? There are plenty of ultrathin Samsung plasmas with cracked screens, and they all stop working pretty quickly because the buffer board is fried, or the panel gas leaks.

            I don't know them. I paid them $20.00 for the tv. I'm not out too much. I have another blown buffer board, I could pull the chips off and resolder them on the other board. But they are $10 to buy. I'm curious to see if it will work.

              I would just take the boards out and sell it as is. If you want to test the boards just lift the bad chips and you should get a part picture which will allow you to check if the boards are working.
