Hey all!
So I got this Sony kdl-46vl160 and instantly when it was on the screen on the left would show still image, dark image, partial 3-4" lines from the top on high contrast images (red mostly).
So I took it apart and started to break it down to screen level to inspect the tab bonds on the AUO TFT boards and notices that Sony had made this accessible with out taking the bezel off!
I took off the heat sink shield and used a piece of flat cardboard to apply pressure to the bonds nothing changed, so I unplugged the left T-con/AUO TFT board cable and the screen upon power up was white on the left and picture on the right. Screen was not dark/distorted.
I think did the same thing to the right side, this time the screen was blank not white and the left side did show a picture but it was lines moving to the move (not a picture like the other side) When I put both T-con/AUO TFT cables back on the picture was fine no image issues or anything.
I have been running the panel non stop yesterday for several hours the picture was fine no dark image splotches or delayed image like it was before. I did add some shims to the tab bond boards to keep them flat and level and then re applied the heat sink on and still the picture is fine after another 2-3 hours of use.
I turned the panel on after letting it sit off all night and let it warm up for about 30-45 min and still is working as it should be.
So my question is could reseating the T-con cables fixed this? I also reseated the LDVS cable too. The right side being unplugged was strange when the left was only showing lines but then both were plugged in the image was totally fine. Is this an effect of the 120hz panels?
